I think it will make it difficult for him to get a visa if you haven't even met in person, and what about meeting his family ?
Surely you would want to do this (and learn something about his background and culture) if you're serious about the guy.
Family is VERY important to Filipinos, and they are very proud of their country and people.
If you visit, it's not exactly Afghanistan you know.
