    English Language Test in Cebu?

Any suggestions on where to take the A1 English Language Test in Cebu?

My fiancee has to take the test, despite a Bachelors Degree in Primary Education.

I am sure she could pass a higher level test, so any suggestions on higher level tests which would be recognised in the UK for employment?

IELTS - but i'm not 100% sure it is acceptable, i would have thought so, as it's probably the most recoognised and useful of all the english tests.

IELTS is acceptable and, depending on how well you do in the test, you can get higher grades too. So, it does seem a good test.

IELTS would be more useful than the other tests, my wife had to take the Academic version of IELTS.
its a day long test, but widely recognised.

I have already heard back from her. She knows nothing of A1 tests as the Consulate has no involvement in visa matters.

    Hello Breakfast,

Take a look at this link:
    http://www.vfs-uk-ph.com/images/2010...A1_Testing.pdf
Its the list of test providers that are assessed as meeting the UK Border Agency’s requirements for testing English at A1 level in the Philippines.

    I hope this will help.

@keithAngel: Can you tell me what are the controversies about the Theodolite?

Sir, can you go to this VFS Global link:
    http://www.vfs-uk-ph.com/news.aspx
then click the "here" in the 22 November news.

Im just wondering, why did they include Theodolite on their list on the VFS Global site if they're not one of the approved test providers?
    I'm confuse now.

A List of English Language Schools in Cebu

Here is a list of English Language schools in Cebu. I am not sure which ones offer the A1 test:

    ALTA Language Academy www.altacebu.com
    American International Training Institute www.aiticebu.com
    Asia Pacific College www.apc.edu.ph
    CDU ESL Center www.cduesl.com
    CIA (Cebu International Academy) www.cebucia.com
    Cebu International School www.cis.edu.ph
    Cebu Languages www.cebulanguages.com
    Centre for International Education www.cie.edu
    Cleverlearn English Language Institute www.cleverlearncebu.com
    Harvest Christian School International www.hcsinternational.org
Southeast Asia English Experience Institute www.southeastasiaenglish.com
    Theodolite Training www.theodolite-training.com
    Toouchasis Contact Solutions www.touchasia.com

The Centre for International Education tell me they have offered the A1 test in the past and may do so again by April, 2011

Theodolite Training do offer the A1 test but there have been questions raised about its integrity.

Another alternative is to try the British Council who do have test centre in Cebu, but they seem unable to say which of their tests is accepted by the UK Border Agency for the A1 test.

    Energy Advising ?

I think I ought to clear up a couple of misconceptions that seem to be flying around this forum.

The reason I was involved with Energy Saving courses in the UK is because the college I was working for as a trainer/assessor went into liquidation, as did a number of similar institutions around the same time.

I, as did my colleagues, lost a great deal of money from unpaid salaries, etc., and anyone who has ever been caught up in a situation like this knows how painfull this all is, especially at my age.

The collapse of the college left hundreds of students completely stranded having paid a lot of money for courses, with little or no hope of ever achieving their initial aims.

I was approached by many of these students to see if I could help them complete the courses and I agreed. This was at a very minimal cost to them, generally covering the ABBE registration and examination fees. PPC a registered ABBE assessment centre with whom I had worked with prior to the collapse agreed that I could process these students through their centre, which I did.

Do I regret ever agreeing to helping these guys, absolutely not, and if anyone, as on this forum, think I should not have, then you need to speak to the guys who are now working as Assessors in the UK as they had originally intended.

As far as the testing centre here in Cebu is concerned, we are a registered training centre for EDI and offer the ELSA English test which is approved by the UK Border Agency.

This is not a 'get rich quick scheme' as has been implied by people who have obviously no idea what it costs to set up a centre with computers, internet, etc., . For each test we offer we have to pay a large percentage to EDI for the administration and recording of each test, which leaves us very little to cover the enormous overheads required..

I have spent a great deal of my life within education and I get great pleasure out of helping people achieve their goals. I am sorry if this offends people on this forum.

There were some inconsistancies on my websites but these were completely unintentional and have been corrected.

The 'questions' over my centre name is due to the fact that my website in the UK is 'theodolite.net', and I have used this for many years as an important part of the online courses that I use to run. Setting up the centre here I was not permitted to use the same name as apparently there are many companies here using the name 'theodolite', and 'training'. The final name 'Theodolite Training Group UK Incorporated is the closest that I could have.

As mentioned elsewhere on this forum, I am a registered learning provider in the UK and as I continue to help the remaining few candidates from the collapsed college I did not feel that it was incorrect or misleading to mention this on our sites. I have since removed the statement.

Since starting our centre here in Cebu on December 27th, we have had almost 20 visa applicants successfully pass their A1 test, and have had their applications approved. Some of these sat their test with us on Saturday or Sunday, and occasionally late in to the night.

I would just close in saying that, as a registered EDI Training centre in Cebu City, we were asked if we would be prepared to offer the A1 test to UK visa applicants, and this was not our initial intention.

If any of you would like to visit our centre then you will be made very welcome.

    Peter

As posthome only started his centre on December 27, 2010 it is quite surprising to find that the "College Flyer' already has seven testimonials from satisfied students of Theodolite Training Group in the Philippines...

    http://www.theodolite-training.com/school.pdf

But are these testimonials really for Theodolite Training Group in the Philippines? Well, we also see the same testimonials on another website run by posthome, that presumbably pre-date his 'move' to the Philippines...

    http://home-energy-advisor.org.uk/say.html

But can we prove these 'testimonials' pre-date the opening of Theodolite Training Group's centre in the Philippines? Yes we can! Here is the proof from the Google Cache of Home Energy Advisor website dated 27 November 2010...

    http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...w.google.co.uk

So, posthome opened his centre in Cebu on 27 December, 2010 but the seven testimonials for the training supposedly offered at that centre were published on or before 27 November, 2010. How can that be?

    Touche.

I have no idea if this is simply a case of Posthome using past sucsess in a seperate legal entity to promote a new venture,It is true that skill and ability transfer with the Directors but the opposite may also be true , for me this is ONLY about getting acurate information ,direct from the Embasy , so there can be no mistake

Since you have chosen to defend your prices what I would say is 10,000 piso is what a VERY good local English teacher might earn in a month how much are you charged by the EDI ?

Theodolite is not a very common word! So, just how popular is that word for companies based in the Philippines? Any Philippines company has to be registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the SEC have a website which allows anyone to check for the existence of ANY word in any of the companies based in the Philippines. You can do so here...

    1. http://www.sec.gov.ph/

    2. Click on Search Reserved/Registered Companies

    3. Enter the single word Theodolite into the search box

    4. Click on Show companies that contain the given words

    5. Click Search

Hey presto, there is just ONE company listed in the Philippines which contains the word Theodolite in its name:

    THEODOLITE CONSTRUCTION AND SUPPLY

In other words, there are NO companies in the Philippines showing on the publically-available SEC register that contain the words Theodolite and Training - not even Theodolite Training Group UK Inc!!!
