    Poppy Burners on trial

Poppy burning made my stomach turn over, says Armistice witness

Members of the public paying respects to the fallen on Armistice Day told a court today of their revulsion when Muslim protesters burned
    poppies.

Mohammed Haque and Emdadur Choudhury went on trial today accused of public disorder by using "threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour within the hearing or sight of people who would be harassed, alarmed or disturbed by it".

The incident happened during a two-minute silence close to the Royal Albert Hall where a Remembrance Day service was being held last November, the court heard.

Poppy burning in Afganistan has been rather popular hadnt thought of that conection

Im personaly not keen on "threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour within the hearing or sight of people who would be harassed, alarmed or disturbed by it" as an offence as it is rather a licence for arrest at will oftenly followed by de-arrest.

I wouldnt want some one arrested every time my stomache turns over

Lets see what the Magistrates decide

£50 quid fine pathetic - what kind of message does this send out to the scum. The DPP needs to appeal the sentence and the Judge should be given his P45

I'd been going to say: 'Let's hope the Magistrate gives 'em a right ""!' But no such luck! One found "NOT GUILTY"? And the other fined a paltry fifty quid! God Almighty - or should I say, "*allah (note deliberate use of small-case *initial letter) be damned? - a car park attendant is empowered to slap penalty notices of [sometimes] twice that amount on the windscreens of vehicles ... whose owners "dare" to exceed the timespan of their automated ticket by as little as one minute!

this guy openly states that there is nothing he likes about the UK but sill takes £800 in benefits per month, he is a British citizen so there is little that the legal system can do... but what about natural justice, about what is right and just plain wrong... this case has just about finalised my thinking about getting the hell out of here just as soon as I can the only benefit this country can offer.. a UK passport for my honey so we can travel more easily.. 15 months and counting

free speech!!!! but not it seems if we might damage the sensitivities of the muslim community... I remember my ex wife an Irish brummie who told me a story from the early nineties when the locals complained about a PA system being used at the central mosque in Highgate to call the faithful to prayer. The mosque successfully argued to the powers at be that the church bells in the surrounding area were in the same category and the local churches were told to desist!!!!!! the rot of appeasement/too much tolerance started a long time ago....

The problem is we are surrounded by the crap all the time. I was talking to our neighbour earlier and she was livid about the outcome of the poppy burning case she didn't know that the grub hadn't even turned up for the verdict and sentence as "reading papers just makes my blood boil".

You will note that Mr Free Speech above has legged it from the UK

On the contrary they were charged tried one found guilty and punished the diference as I see it is that our justice system said £50 and you would idealy like them to be hung drawn and quartered at half time at your local sports stadium or just tarred and feathered if your feeling particularly jovial

Perhaps a more fitting punishment would be to be locked in a room and be forced to listen to you ranting on about whatever the daily Mail says next

have to agree with on that particular comment, only recently a radio journalist was gunned down on the outskirts of Puerto Princesa only yards from a shop my mahal uses regularly. His crime was to highlight mis use of public funds by the previous governer and being outspoken on environmental issues around mining/drilling

The issue for me is that WE choose to become resisdents of the Phils knowing what the country politics/socio economic and cultural norms are.. the UK has had a failed social experiment foisted upon it by liberal, left thinking, politically correct governments and educational activists.

What you are seeing here on this thread is relatively normal people GETTING FED UP and becoming more vocal and extreme in their views as the society they knew continues to disintegrate around them.

Granted Dedworth may be at the more extreme end but I see here more and more rational individuals at least partially agreeing wih him.

It is in fact sad that outfits like the English defence league and the BNP are even tolerated by society and the law, they are just as bad as any other form of extremism, but the fact THEY HAVE FLOURISHED should be a shame on all reasonable men. For evil to prevail it only takes GOOD men to do nothing. Wake up all reasonable men and reverse the trends before it is too late for the UK

Respect for the country, its people and laws have totally gone. When they speak of morales etc.. it seems like its just a lip service.

Seldom you heard of people whose motives are truly patriotic as most are of personal greeds or maybe religious beliefs that made some people stuck up with logic and reason.

Great Post I agree there are many discussions we all need to have to decide the kind of society we want to live in ,the problem as I see it is that once the extremists get a voice they use that disatisfaction to forward their agendas of hatred and use emotion rather than reason to try to marginalise parts of our community.

I dont accept that here in the Phils any more than in Portugal or the UK keeping silent may simply facilitate the rise of facism that has always demonised ethnic groups as the untermensh We as a community who love our cross cultural relationships would be foolish to go down this route by claiming some kind of exemption to the rule off "us" & "them" that is the sole rallying cry of the master race.

I will never judge a group by the behaviour of an individual but each person I meet on there merits and I will never remain silent when foolishmen clamour for blood for some imagined slight or blind hatred. They should be ridiculed and given no hiding place amonst decent men of reason regardless of there place of birth or cultural persausion

    Very laudable.

For the sake of good order do you class the likes of Abu Hamza, Omar Bakari, Anjem Choudary and their followers as forwarders of "agendas of hatred" ? Have you had a chance yet to watch the C4 Dispatches: Lessons in Hatred and Violence yet ? - it's quite easy to find on YouTube

    Just wondering .................

NO POINT in resurrecting that "old chestnut" ... it has already stirred-up way too much ill-feeling among the membership. Consequently, the thread will remain CLOSED!
