Red face Hi! newbie from the Phil.

I'm bluebelle. I'm currently in the Philippines but plans to migrate to the UK within a year. I'm a cocktail so I have a dual citizenship. And I'm also a professional nurse currently working in the Emergency Department of a Level 4 Hospital in Manila. I would love to be a part of this community. And it would be very helpful because I'm learning a lot from the forums. 'til my next post.

Hi Bluebell ....... welcome to the forum. Are you planning to come to the UK to do some nursing over here or moving with a partner? I wish you the very best of luck.

I was born in UK but raised in the Philippines. I haven't visited since we left. So that makes it harder to move there. Thanks for the warm welcome, terpe.

Hi Rosie! I am planning to practice my profession there. But I still need to apply for my NMC before leaving the Phil. I'm married with kids and still haven't decided if I'll go first or I'll bring them all with me. I need to find a good job first. But I don't know how to start since the agencies here don't entertain British citizens since they won't earn from the visas and placement( or that's what they say). I am yet to find a good agency in the UK that I can coordinate with while I'm here so I'd have an idea how it will go. Thanks for the warm welcome.

    Hi Bluebell

I don't know which area in the UK you are interested in working but thought that I would give you an example of the vacancies that are currently being advertised at a very large university hospital in Cambridge .............. http://www.cuh.org.uk/cuh/working_fo...ing_index.html

Just click on latest vacancies on the left hand side to view them and the salaries on offer. Contact details for general recruitment at the hospital are on the right. It you have to go through a recruitment agency because you are abroad, the recruitment department may well be able to let you have contact details of a reputable agency.

There are a large number of filipino nurses that work at this hospital too. Good luck with your search

    hi bluebell
this is from the nmc website
    nformation for nurses

Please check that your training in your home country matches our requirements. These are that you should have completed a three year full time course or a course totalling 4600 hours at post secondary level leading to registration as a general nurse. At least half of this course, 2,300 hours, must be in clinical or practical training, and at least one third, 1,533 hours, must be theoretical training.

The course must include theoretical and practical instruction in general and specialist medicine, general and specialist surgery, childcare and paediatrics, maternity (obstetric) care, mental health and psychiatry, care of the elderly, community or primary care nursing.

If you trained in the USA and have an associate in science degree in nursing (ASDN) that was below three full time years in length, you will not meet our requirements for registration. We will consider your application if your programme was three full time years or more, and if you undertook a bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN).

If your application meets our minimum standards, you will have to complete an overseas nursing programme. The programme sets out common entry standards, a compulsory 20-day period of protected learning and, where appropriate, a period of supervised practice. We strongly recommend that you secure your place on a programme before travelling to the UK.

you may find that agencies will not employ you until you have done the 20 day training period
