Memories of cars from days gone by

Hearing imagine talking about a Triumph Toledo gave me this idea.

My dad had a yellow one of these. Great looking car. Ford Cortina I think. He also had a Cortina Estate which got stuck in the sand at Weston-Super-Mare


And he had a one of these unfortunately when Fiat in the 80's weren't very good - and it didn't have a passenger seat. A Fiat 127.



My Grandad had a similar car to this but not sure if it was a Triumph Acclaim or a Dolomite.


My Gran drove a Mini Clubman


My dad borrowed this from a mate and remember him driving around Portsmouth in it. An Austin Maxi.


I was a passenger in one of those old Skoda's from Blackpool to Oldham. ........and I lived to tell the tale. :


The Ford Capri. A classic car. Used to go to football in one of these.


My first ever car. Ford Escort Mk III.


My lodger had an Austin Montego and I drove it on occasions. These rustbuckets weren't great to drive but it's better than a Maestro. Just.


The worst car I've driven because of the comfort. Never again! Daewoo Matiz!

nice one jamie, had a mini, / ford escort,/ morris minor traveller,/allegro estate/mini clubman estate/ mini van/ had 3 vauxhall vivas, a strange think it was a fiet van with a side door, was good for camping,ford escort van modyfied 2.2 engine from i think cortina, gear box and diff think was from a corsair, it was like **** off a stick if you will pardon the expression /austin maxi,/an old open top american style corsair, was a beuty, wish i had pics, /vauxhall astra,/ ford escort estate/oh and the ford anglia,/ mmm been through a few, and sure there might be the odd one i forgot

I remember my dad's first car, a black Morris Minor Traveller with red leather seats which was swapped for a little Austin A40, car registration URC 331 a year later. He loved that little car and we went every where in it.

My first car was a Ford Escort mark 1, which was replaced by several other Ford Escorts and then a Morris Marina. I then moved on to a Fiesta XR2 and then back to a Ford Escort XR3. The escort was eventually replaced by the Ford Focus and I am still driving a Ford today

my brother use to have a nova kit car in the late 70's, early 80's which use to turn some heads in those days

Apart from the fact that it was black, this was my first car (1934 Austin 10) Cost £7.50 in 1957.

Yesterday, even in Spain where gas is a little less than in UK, it cost about £60 to fill the petrol tank of my Corolla !

You certainly love your TVR's lucky you for being able to afford them.
Here's a story to make you cry.

After I sold my house in 2002 I went out and bought a 1998 TVR Cerbera 4.5 V8
I got it at a real bargain price, looked stunning (red) and a performance you just cannot describe. Over 400 BHP. I mean it had to be felt to be believed honestly!!
Even had a rollover cage. ha ha
The downside for such an expensive toy was the realisation of the impact of no ABS braking and no traction control.
I very soon learnt what an inexperienced driver I was. Wasted on me really.
Ah! also I remember the truly horrendously running costs!
I only had the pleasure of this car from March to July 2002. Then sold it at a very massive loss.
Stupid. Never forgave myself for such stupidity.
2002 was my memorable year of many stupid things. Anyway no point to live with regret.
But.................. wish I hadn't been so stupid so many times in 2002

You're not alone Terpe, over a 10 year period I bought 8 brand new cars, top end Audi's, BMW's, Mercs and other sports cars/roadsters. I daren't say publicly how much I lost....but it was a huge amount of money. Fortunately the last few cars I've owned I've actually made money on, including a 1 year old Saab convertible bought at the very bottom of the credit crunch and a couple of Ferrari's

Yes, you're right, we have many things in common and I have the upmost respect for your attitude and experiences Travel and cars have been my lifelong passions, unfortunately I have had to pay for these myself, as my job doesnt give me the opportunity to travel overseas, and I opted out of the company car scheme many years ago as I didn't want to be seen in another 'boring' executive mobile

My next car will probably be a Cerbera (V8).

This one belongs to my friend, but he's put a Corvette 6.9 in it, tuned to over 600bhp. You wouldn't want him as a neighbour though.
