Depends where you will live, what you will eat, how much electricity you will consume
(air-con is so bloody expensive), how often you will go out. Do you smoke , drink, gamble etc you get the idea.
GBP 10,000 should be more than OK if you are sensible and to a certain extent live just a little native sometimes.

yes i was there 12 weeks last year i always over spend when iam there treating everyone but if just living anormal quiet life wife my son for a year it would just be the one or 2 times a month we would have a family outing i dont drink smoke or gamble i can live on the very basic things it would be in pikit north cotabato i would live
Have you factored in enough to cover UK mortgage,bills etc during your spell away and a few K tucked away for when you get back just to tide you over till your working again?

I think from what you've said, your responses and your positive and realistic attitude GBP10,000 per year will be plenty (No major city) Just be sure your leccy is controlled, and not too many family 'treats'.
As Tawi2 says, important to be sure your UK unavoidable expenses are covered.
Remember your medical expenses if emergency. NHS will be limited.

If you will enter with your wife you will get 12 months Balikbayan stamp for 12 months.
Otherwise, either think about getting 59 day visa before you go OR make arrangements to renew your visa when you are there. No major problem but will cost a bit. Do search here for details and cost. If any proble get back here and I will locate details for you.

I did it last year,mainly in cotabato and Davao where I spent very little as I dont have to budget for accommodation,but I island hopped around for a while visiting old mates and included trips to hong kong,always take a little more than you expect to spend,better to take excess and not need it

dont think that doubts never cross my mind because they do, the hospital fees ect should i suddenly fall ill and cant get back to uk,no private insurance, untill i was informed here, i was under the impresion it was cheap,I really wish I had the opportunity and the courage to do it also.

Yes it will be, I'm 43 and my youngest is only 3, so I reckon I will be supporting my kids until I'm 60 at least. As long as I can retire at 60, then spend 6 months of the year here and 6 months in the tropics I'll be happy. No question of me going before then, even If I could afford to I won't be away from my kids for any more than 2 or 3 weeks at a time. They need me around and I want to be around for them. Aren't we ALL inclined to feel a taded-off at times with the way our country seems to be heading, Alan? Add to that, the
weather conditions the likes of you and I are prone to in the far north ... and it's so easy to hanker after warmer climes.
But let's face it ... would we be ANY better off living in the Phils? I don't think so!Here, in the UK, we at least have the safety net of the NHS to fall back on ... should illness suddenly strike - a very REAL [and unwelcome] prospect when you reach my age. All too often, the "grass may APPEAR greener" on the other side ... but, in truth, it couldn't be more green than it is here - thanks to our annual rainfall!
However - at the end of the day - the choice is yours ... I can only urge you to think very carefully before making any firm decisions.
you would be living in a 3rd world country and wouldnt need all that stuff, the plan is to live there for a year and budget for it....i could get away with far less but my wife would be more than happy to live on 100-150k peso a month.
you could get away with 50k a month depending on where you live etc...as you already have a wife and kid, so you must already know some of the costs you will incur but i have to admit i wouldnt go and live long term in the philipines unless i was getting 100k a month with a family to support

A Filipino family of 2 adults and 2 kids can live on 5k a month or less depending if they have an income or not.
Our expenses here in the province come to around 30K a month and there are 8 of us living in this owned house..
That amount doesn't include school fees etc but I doubt you will need to know about that kind of thing.

9000 rent (reasonably big house in Manila probably a mansion in the provinces)
17,500 food from SM supermarket good to feed 4 adults and 3 kids (very varied good diet)
500 peso for Cable Tv
1000 peso water (extravegant)
2000 - 4000 peso electric depending on aircon use and common sense I would err on the 2000 peso common sense side.
27,000 peso left each month for everything else which is frankly not bad
You could do the food cheaper with not too much effort, I can live without aircon but my partner can't.
Water bill of 1000 is good for daily showers for 7, cooking, cleaning and waste.
Don't know what rents are like in the provinces but I would guess they are less than Manila?
27,000 is not a fortune but a night out at the pictures with a good meal for two can be done for 1100 peso (700 for the food the rest for cinema tickets popcorn and hotdogs).
Night out in good Chinese restaurant for two 1000 peso really good Korean restaurant 1500 peso.
Night out taking the whole troop for food, maybe 2,500 peso, that's like Mall of Asia for example.
Ok you have clothing and special expenses for the wee one, especialy if the child is very young, the likes of Pampers and Formula milk which can be very very expensive.
If you really need the internet you could do it for 1000 peso a month using a prepaid stick if you were careful or used their UNLISURF bundles, trying to get internet installed by PLDT is not worth the trouble you will still be waiting years later, useless company.
10 grand GBP is not an impossible budget it's not a bad amount to live on over there for 12 months.

Bit concerned about your Cinema bills too!! Popcorn + 4 packet of crisps a large Sprite and a ticket only sets me back a little over 200.00!!
As you say.. 68K is pretty good living IMO..
10,000 to 15,000 is around 1k per month or 250peso per week, I think its more than that
