Sir Alex Ferguson has been charged by the Football Association with improper conduct over comments he made about referee Martin Atkinson.

The Manchester United boss said he had "feared the worst" when Atkinson was appointed for Tuesday's game with Chelsea, which United lost 2-1.

Ferguson has until 1600 GMT next Tuesday to respond to the charge.

He also has two matches of a four-game ban from last season hanging over him after remarks about referee Alan Wiley.

What about the "Respect Campaign" ? this man shows a complete lack of respect for the officials and rules of the game. I understand at the Chelsea game he spent most of the time outside his own "technical area" even straying into Ancelottis. Obviously the 4th official didn't have the backbone to bend the refs ear and have him sent off.

Totally agree, if the ref makes a mistake or a dodgy call, managers should be allowed to criticize them

TECHNICAL AREA

Managers need to be in control of their behaviour and that of their coaching staff.

1. If a manager/coach/team official berates either the referee or assistant referee or fourth official in a very public way in contravention of the Laws of the Game, he should be removed to the stand, and reported to The Football Association.
2. If a manager/coach/team official breaches Competition Rules only by not adhering to the 4th Official’s instructions to return to the bench after giving instructions and having a suitable length of time to see if they have been carried out, they may be removed to the stand and reported to the appropriate competition.

The rules apply to all managers inc Fergie, my point was that ref's make mistakes, and if they do managers should be allowed to say what they think. We all have freedom of speach in our daily lives and are allowed to complain or criticize something we dont like or agree with.

The problem with Ferguson is that he's at it all the time, a serial offender who constantly harangues and abuses officials (except those who are on the Old Trafford payroll eg Crappenburg )

He's no saint, but TBH they are all as bad. When you listen to the post match interviews, they nearly all have a dig at the ref about a dodgy decision that turned the game. It's part of football, it's a big money highly competitive business. They're all going to blame someone else for their own teams failings on the pitch.

The only reason you don't hear the other managers complain is that most of them can't speak English now Harry's as bad, but he's always jovial with it and get's away with it because he's a cheeky Cockney, wheras Taggart comes in for criticism because his Glaswegian accent makes him sound aggresive

Not sure - BBC TV has got a higher profile and the agreement is with the Premier League - they should fine Manure every week

Agreed. The only two managers that I found interesting to listen to are Ian Holloway and ex manager Roy Keane. Actually, I find not only managers but the majority of pundits/reporters to be extremely boooring too. The only exception being Jeff Stelling & Co off Soccer Saturday on SSN.
