As for explaining your periods of absences was due to work commitments on visit visas won't wash either.

They will quite rightly say, you should of got the correct visa in the first place, ie finance or spouse

evidence you have lived together over the 2yrs, such as joint rent agreement, bills, bank accounts etc at the same address spread over the 2 yrs.
