    Bad headaches

This last week I've started getting crippling headaches on the left side of my head, Sort of like a migrane. I think I know what causes it and I think its my laptop. The strange thing is I've had my laptop for about 18 months and these headaches have only just started. Strangely its when I'm opening up folders etc that they start. Nothing happens if I'm watching a movie or anything. So I wonder what has happened to me or my computer to all of a sudden start these mad headaches?

Seriuos answer: Try doing the things that casue it but only with your right eye open. Do this for a few days and see what happens. If you still get headaches, do it for few days with the other eye. This will at least show you if it's an eye and which one is causing the problem.

If it is an eye, then you probably need a laptop with a decent graphics card and a dual core so the screen refresh is massively increased and your brain doesn't register it.

From what you say it could be migraine. Headaches are a common reason to visit doctors, and three out of four are due to tension in the scalp or neck muscles from stress. It could just be tension, although that's usually on both sides, in which case relaxing, taking painkillers, adjusting your laptop and your posture when using it, should help.
I'm just concerned because your symptoms are new, they sound quite severe, and I can't be sure it IS the laptop causing them. Migraine can be treated with prescription drugs, and a visit to your doctor might rule out less common causes of headache.

Best avoid opening up folders then.
Also get yourself down the doctors.

I get headaches/migraines from my neck (it's fused), but I've learnt how to keep the latter at bay. It's just a case of finding the trigger and taking care of it.

I think you should replace your laptop to get rid from the headaches, because it is not more than your health. So take care of yourself.

Just to add to all the other suggestions, the only reason I get headaches is from a neck problem. Sometimes I feel like stretching and twist my neck a certain way and boom! major major headache. Do you remember the exercises people were encouraged to do years ago of turning your head in a clockwise then anticlockwise loop, worst thing you could ever do.
So look at how you sit in front of your laptop, maybe you are stooping your head when your using it.

Thanks everyone for the continuing advice, it is much appreciated. Things have got better over the last week or so, but I'll still go get my eyes tested for a start off and if I'm still not happy I'll see my GP
