Good gracious - my wife thinks i'm a deranged madman

Last time I was in Dipolog, my wife's brother in law who is a policeman took me shooting which I really enjoyed. Today, in Yahoo I mentioned it would be nice to buy a handgun so I could shoot again without having to bother her brother in law ..............her response was "Oh no, you always drink here, you might get mad and kill someone and it might be me" .

Just need to warn everyone to be nice to me , seems i'm a drunken killer

Go on punk make my day!! I've always wondered about have a gun out there. I used to do pistol shooting when I was younger (before they banned hand guns in the uk that is). Also for a bit of home protection out there. Some blokes tried to break into one of our apartments in olongapo a while back when the missus was alone in there at night.

Think there are laws against forgeiners owning guns out there though
    It's been emontional

Foreigners and guns are neither a legal nor sensible idea in Pinas.

Just for the record, anything that involves a non-bailable offence in Pinas is a very bad idea.

... happened to read somewhere recently, that merely being in possession of firearms here in the UK, carries a mandatory 5-year jail sentence. So ... given the restrictions on foreigners in the Phils owning a handgun - and the probable consequences - it's definitely NOT worth taking any risks!!!

Yes it's illegal for a foreigner to possess (or use) a firearm in the Phils.

The best armament you have is the one at the end of your arm....the Mrs.

I thought my ex was going to murder the neighbour one day.

She only ever once lost her temper with me...and it was straight for the carving knife.

Well said, most guys think they will get a pistol or shotgun for home defence but couldnt use it in a situation that required it,thats just how it is,they psychologically couldnt muster the aggression to handle a weapon in times of crisis.
When I first went to Pinas it was easy to pick up a .38 for maybe £35,these were locally made Danao-specials,anyone who went to Danao back then could watch the pistols being manufactured if they had local contacts.Mots people I know in Pinas have something around the house, the only people I know who have used their weapons over there are pinoys, dont know any puti who has discharged a weapon in anger or for self-defence.I taught my kid to shoot pistols since he was 8 years old, loads of ranges and clubs over there. Also remember your body armour, just in case

That brought back some great memories of my first trip to Cebu 15 years ago.
One day I went off to somewhere with my Bro-in-law to pick up his pistol. Can't really remember now if it was in Danao City.
Hand made in some old guys house. Stuff everywhere. The thing I always remember was that this guy was so old.... I think he was about 70. Making guns for all kinds of people.
What a memory. I had almost forgotten that.

Probably was Danao Terpe, been there a few times,it used to be THE place to go if you wanted a cheap throw-away.I have been to places in Pakistan and Afghanistan, gun villages like Darra adam khel, and sat and watched artisans turn out exact replicas of AK's etc, real eye-opener the local shops sold everything from rpg-7's to boxes of russian PFM-1's

    The ex's dad had a home-made pistol and a home-made rifle....both fashioned by himself.

He was a guerilla fighter in WW2.

    - Died before being able to use either of them on me.

Guns!! I call it a ''hot stuff'' .. hot when its with you.. hot when you keep it and even hotter when you dont know how to use it responsibly,..
I grew up with guns inside the house ,not on display but hidden underground which only comes out when my dad and grand dad wants to hunt for a deer, wild boar..or practice shooting...he got all proper permits and licenses..and all branded one's..dont get danao ,home made or ''paltik'', it will kill ya or it might kill somebody!!

... you're making the guy seem like he's 'Methuselah'! I'll be his age in just over 3 years from now.

I dont know if it was because the brother in law was a policeman , but it was no problem to go to the range and shoot his Taurus 9mm handgun and his M16 . I remember everyone thought I was mad because I preferred the handgun to the M16 !
Like 99% of UK citizens, I had never seen a gun before let alone fired one but I found the experience thoroughly enjoyable. As for home defense, I dont think I could ever shoot anyone - then again you never know, if my life or my asawas was in danger ............
My idea was to buy one just for target practice , join the local gun club etc. My baby seems to have calmed down a little now (haha) and said the licence would probably have to be in her name) but like most things over there that are absolutely totally illegal ............couple of hundered peso bribe and its fixed.
You've just got to love the Phils !
