UK Job but based on site in Italy -

    Hi there

After 2 or 3 years of looking I have finally been offered and started a permanent job in UK that will put me easily above the minimum required so to show I will have no need for recourse to public funds(hooray!!) .... & so that I can now start building up my 6 months payslips & bank statements for settlement application for my wife & kids ..... my contract is with a UK company & paying full UK income tax & NI (deducted at source by employer) and I will use my sisters house in UK as my home (this house will also be the future accomodation place for me & my family when they come over & the local Council have already assessed it to be acceptably big enough legally for us) ..... however, the company require I work on site in Italy 100% of the time, literally ... how will this affect my application ..will I still be considered as a UK resident or will I be a returning resident or should I need to be in UK the day my wife puts in the application in Manila later this year ? ..... hope someone can offer some guidance & any other thoughts as I do not wish to come a croper and the application be refused ...ciao & cheers

if your a Brit in Italy and working, then you'll be exercising your treaty rights and should be able to apply after i think its 3 months, maybe 6 months of working there, for a family permit from the Italian embassy in Manila for a family permit for your wife and kids to join you in Italy , it should cost nothing and a very high success rate of getting the visa

Hi Joe ..thanks & bless for that & the other nuggets of advice from long times ago.... .... thats cool, so there's potential for them to join me here, we'll enquire at the Italiano embassy Manila & sounds nothing to lose doing it ! .. however, our big aim is we all be UK based tho & as quick as poss & then get FLR asap too ... so, we wonder if worth holding out for that instead after building up 6mnths payslips et al ....unless there's a way they can then come thru via Italy ? .... we love pizza's but fish & chips is better!
    thks

it cost nothing for a family permit, its almost your legal right as a EU citizen
once they've been in Italy for a few months and say then you want to come back to the UK you can use surinder singh route to bring them back to the UK, for nothing.

VERY interesting indeed & cool link too .... ..as far i can see its a choice of 5 yrs ish til apply for ILR/FLR if exercise EU citizen rights (and have my family with me very soon here in Italy) + save on big application fees ....or quicker 3 yrs for ILR/FLR if go the normal UK immigration route (but quite a few months b4 have my family with me) .... I wonder if they can get health care & education in Italy if they come now ..... i also wonder how to find out what the process is if they were in Italy & then we go to UK & how long that will take .... ....

your right about the ilr 3yrs thru UK route and 5yrs to PR thru the Euro route, but thats probably the only disadvantage of not going for the euro route.

i think the only other downside is you need private health insurance for them in Italy.
