    cycle to Hong Kong
I had reckoned on about 6 months...mostly camping en route.

I was a bit fitter 4 years ago though.

Sounds like an awesome trip, get in touch with an independant film company or one of the channels with a view to filming it,I think your son will be proud to tell his kids of their grandads trip, not everyone who suddenly decides on such an adventure iran-pakistan-china?

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.

That's "funny", Ian ... because Myrna's often said she doesn't fancy visiting any of the African countries either!

    Originally, yes.

My brother speaks fluent Farsi, and has contacts in Asia Minor and Pakistan, which might have helped.

Even if it becomes too much on the bike, I could buy an old car and continue on in that way.

I have read so many incredible stories and internet blogs, it has become a 'must do'.

Life is just too short to squander it on watching Eastenders and the like.

I did the old silk route when I was a kid, going through Baluchistan was incredible,as was entering Xinjiang,I dont even speak fluent english but I made it,we only live once,I have some stories to tell my kid that when he is old enough to understand I was never a bad guy just because of past actions,I always wanted to try everest,I have been to namche bazzar, but its around £25000 for a place and then theres associated costs and three months acclimatization,I couldnt justify splashing £25000 even if I had it

when I was a teenager I was an air cadet... flew on aN 11 hour AEW flight onboard a shackleton ...basicallya descendant of the Lancaster, a 10 hour fishery protection flight on a Nimrod and went solo 1 day after my 16th birthday in an old kirby cadet wooden glider, still glide now and again. the take off in a fully fuelled Shack WAS SOMETHING ELSE , the gap between take off velocity V1 stick back and v2 safe airspeed no stall V2 was muuuuchhh loonger than I would have wished, could almost hear a collective sigh of relief from the crew over the headset LOL.

temper and rants seem to last a day
I never get a temper mate, its not worth it,I used to have anger management problems but nowadays I am tranquil and chilled
I might pop over to the Barrio Fiesta and walk around listening for a Pinay quoting Confucius Moy

I had a crazy thought last night that I would like to walk the length of the UK. need to consider which charity to try to support.. my preference would be for a local childrens charity or even an individual child in need.... any one know of a deserving case? Now to research the routes, I think North to south and probably around May/June next yr.
