Very funny, but I don't see why the HateMail has to keep referring to the value of their property? £500K could be an ex -council house in the Home Counties or a mansion somewhere else...and does it really matter? Mind you, if it was the Scum, they'd have probably mentioned how large the ladies breasts were

It is such a shame that ignorance and bad behaviour is either excused or celebrated in this sad society of ours.

I thought it was rather eloquently presented, despite being totally direct.
Not that I know anything about the background, but the issues were clear.

Luckily for me my mother-in-law speaks very little English.
I cannot ever forget her words to me when I asked to marry her daughter. They eventually ended with "go back to England as soon as possible".
When I left the family at the airport she was in floods of tears
    She's always loved me.

i hope you've made notes on this dedworth

MRS BOURNE'S GUIDE TO GOOD MANNERS

When you are a guest in another’s house, you do not declare what you will and will not eat – unless you are positively allergic to something. You do not remark that you do not have enough food. You do not start before everyone else. You do not take additional helpings without being invited to by your host.
When a guest in another’s house, you do not lie in bed until late morning in households that rise early – you fall in line with house norms.
You should never ever insult the family you are about to join at any time and most definitely not in public. I gather you passed this off as a joke but the reaction in the pub was one of shock, not laughter.
You should have hand-written a card to me. You have never written to thank me when you have stayed.
You regularly draw attention to yourself. Perhaps you should ask yourself why.
No one gets married in a castle unless they own it. It is brash, celebrity style behaviour.

    now you've been told

Hmm, Mrs.Bourne sounds like my kind of woman.

Too many people do lack manners of any kind these days.

with you Graham ... I'm a stickler for good manners myself; but it does seem to me that "Mrs To The Manor Bourne" ought to have been more mindful of her own peccadillos and shortcomings, before unleashing her unreasonable "code of conduct" on her future daughter-in-law and possibly alienating her stepson in the process.
