I've noticed that no matter what a BBC newscasters ethinic origin they all have same generic BBC accent. When I was in Brunei and Malaysia a couple of months ago watching the English language local TV news, the newscasters there all had a generic BBC 'British' accent. They'd obviously all studied/been trained at the BBC.
Whatever we say about the BBC, it is still one of the most highly respected TV organisations on the planet. the left wing bias does annoy me sometimes, but I remain a fan of the BBC and am proud of it. Whenever I'm abroad, I always watch BBC World if it is available
TBH, I don't care what sex, ethnic origin or sexuality the BBC newscaster is, as long as they are inteligible. I'm more interested in the news rather than the mouthpiece.

I'd be even prouder if the presenter represented an example of the majority indigenous population.
World Service Radio is even worse, now that they've decided upon this diversity of accents nonsense.
Try listening to the shipping forecast one night, with the West Indian guy . God knows what the the poor sailors make of it, while trying to listen in a force 9 gale.
The BBC's impartiality and standards have drastically declined over the last 20 years or so. Patten needs to wield the axe and get shot of the Trough Feeders, Lefties, Diversity/Equality Directors and Politically Correct - all of whom would find it very hard to obtain employment in the real world (ie private sector). This should be followed by a spending review focusing on personalities and presenters obscene salaries. The BBC (and ITV etc) need to realise that it doesn't have to be held to ransom by these people as the majority wouldn't be able to get a job outside of the UK Broadcasting Industry.
They should stick to the Oxbridge accent, at least everyone can understand that. It might not be representative of the regional accents the rest of us have, but at least it makes us sound sophisticated to the rest of the world.
