Most of the Filipino's I chat to or know seem to be obsessed with VitaminsI've never taken a vitamin tablet in my life and I'm in the best shape i've been in my adult life, inspite of smoking
I exercise regularly, but more importantly I am very careful about what I eat. Lots of real meat or fish (nothing processed) and not too much red meat. Lots of green vegetables, onions, garlic, capsicums, chillies aand lots of salad veg.
I like Filipino food, but after a few weeks there, I really miss proper healthy food. I personally find most Filipino food too salty, too sweet, too fatty and lacking a substantial quantity of green/fibrous veg. For a tourist who isn't going to cook when they are on holiday, the only alternative is fast junk food, and that's probably worse.
I'm quite suprised at the lack of veg in Filipino cooking because when I walk around the markets there a lots of veg stalls selling a good variety of veg. However, it never seems to end up in my meals
My point is, if Filipino's ate a proper balance of meat and veg they would get all the vitamins they need from their food, I don't even think it's down to a lack of money, veg is cheap, it's down to choice and a love of fatty, salty and sweet junk food
