Yes ... what your fiance' needs to do, is go to his local Registry Office and ask them to provide a Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) to Marriage - allowing 17 working days to elapse prior to collection. This is valid for a period of up to - but not exceeding - 3 months from the date it's issued, and should be exchanged for the Philippines' version at the British Embassy in Manila.

thnks keeperlit, yes hes got his birth certificate, he was never been married before so no need for absolute decree cert. what we are getting is a provissional booking confirmation in the local registry office since we will be getting married in uk and not in the philippines, so my question as you can read in my previous post does he needs to get a CNI ? i never came across any post here who submitted CNI in apllying for a fiancee visa, not unless your going to marry in the phil.

Funnily enough, I'd been going to mention the A1 Test Certificate also, Abby ... but didn't - because I imagined you would have it - since your command of English is very good!

    re Cenomar

Hello ybba, i'm glad you posted this as i am stuck on the same problem. My fiance is in Cebu and we are currently preparing papers to apply for a fiance visa so she can join me in the UK where we will then get married. We are using a visa service in Cebu and they have asked me to provide evidence of my single status (i have never been married before). I understand that a Certificate of no impediment is only issued by the uk registry office if the applicant plans to marry outside the UK. As there is no other equivalent of a Cenomar in the uk i am really stuck on this one. I've checked the supporting documents check list from UK Border agency which states that you must prove divorced status but no mention of proving single status. I'm wondering if its the visa service office who are confusing things here (they have otherwise been excellent). If anyone has any advice on this or could correct my understanding it would be a great help. Thanks
(ps great forum, this is my first post so do need to introduce myself under the newbies thread)

hi brett b why dont you ask the visa service in cebu on what document to submit as proof of your being single im sure they dealt with that same situation before,as i continue reading no one i guess has submitted a CNI if your applying for a fiancee visa and oviously get married in UK and your right its not on the checklist, maybe the ECO has his way to find out if the british partner is single or not. hopefully those who have been granted with a fiancee visa will help us clarify this matter.

    Thanks for the welcome Arthur!!

ybba - I've found some more info on this. The visa company have advised that I can apply for a Cenomar in the Philippines which should satisfy the requirement. I have no idea how the NSO will check my status but for the sake of a 500peso fee I'm willing to give it a go so Maricel is off to submit the apps tomorrow. I'd also sent an enquiry to VFS in Manila and this is their reply

    "Greetings from UK VAC!
When applying for settlement fiance (marriage) visa, you should obtain a Certificate of No Marriage for both parties. If you are not able to produce the said document, you may still proceed with your application. Please take note that this advise would not guarantee you a visa, as the visa application centre would accept any documents you submit in support of your application and that an Entry Clearance Officer will decide base on the papers you submit, on the merits of your application and in compliance to the Immigration rules.

    Sincerely,
    VFS Helpline UK VAC

So - we will try the Cenomar route first but otherwise submit the visa app without my certificate. I'll let you know what happens!
    Best wishes

    Brett

The link to the VFS website should give you all the information you need, including the link to fill in an online application.

    http://www.vfs-uk-ph.com/applying.aspx

If you need to print off an application then you need this:-
