Somali asylum seekers in 6 bedroomed £2m house

    The madness continues

A family of asylum seekers has moved into a £2million home in one of the country’s most exclusive neighbourhoods at taxpayers’ expense.

Unemployed Saeed Khaliif is being handed almost £8,000 a month to pay the rent on his house, one of the most expensive ever to be funded by housing benefit.

The Somali refugee, 49, demanded to be moved to the six-bedroom property in West Hampstead, north-west London, with his wife Sayida and their children after deciding their previous accommodation was inadequate.

Their old house, in Coventry, also had six bedrooms but, at £1,000 a month, was a fraction of the burden on the Government.

The family say they wanted to be near friends and relatives in the capital.

But it is understood they left damage estimated at £600 in the Coventry property and did not pay their final month’s rent.

Their new home has a 90ft garden and has been recently refurbished, with an en suite master bedroom, modern kitchen and large living room. It is minutes from West Hampstead Underground station and the neighbourhood is home to comedian Stephen Fry and actress Emma Thompson.

I thought the coalition were trying to stop scrounging and waste of tax payers money. They've been in power over a year, surely it's long enough to stop spongers like this.

Anyone coming to the UK who wants welfare support should be given a tent, a camping stove and a sleeping bag - that's it. That's all they'd get in most EU states, who are also bound by the same laws we are

This is exactly part of the reason why this country is in so much debt and loads of cut-backs have happend/will happen! Just unbelievable that it's still going on! I guess they'll just put petrol up more to keep paying for things like this!

... surely, Joe ... that OUGHT to've been the responsibility of the Housing Association - to bring the accommodation up to a standard fit for habitation.

There must be something about this story that's not being mentioned surely.
It just can't be as simple an issue as is written.
    Can it?

    Indeed TERPE,
if this not lazy selective journalism to sell papers then it is truly upsetting, however if it is then the paper is could be seen as guilty of inciting racial hatred or at least irresponsible journalism.

I remember spending a couple of weeks with a friend and his Malaysian wife living in London's East End ... where it really WAS exceedingly difficult to spot the native population among the huge influx of so-called "assylum seekers". My friend was 'Bed Allocations Manager' at a local hospital ... and he told me that these people frequently demanded - and were given ... precedence over - born-and-bred citizens for in-patient treatment.

I'd have thought the Mail routinely runs stories past their legal people - can't see any racial hatred aspect though and the claimant seems quite media savvy

Mr and Mrs Khaliif refused to speak to the Mail yesterday. A handwritten note on their front door read ‘Media do not knock. We have nothing to say.’

i think the answer is here "but up to eight youngsters have been seen at the property." more work less , 4 bedroom council houses are rare, so it would be impossible to find a 6 bed one, so not to split the family up, the council had to rent a 6 bedroom house

On top of that Tracie Andrews has walked free after serving only 14 years of a life sentence and had cosmetic surgery at a cost of £5k on the NHS.

Just goes to prove that if you're a criminal or an asylum seeker, this country puts you first! Makes me sick!

Don't bunk-beds exist anymore? Plenty of families that pay for their own home would love to have a bedroom each for each of their children, but they can't afford that! Somehow I don't think that somalie family will have a 6 bedroom home back in Somalia!

It turns out these leeches refused a 6 bedroomed house in Coventry

The family had rejected a previous six-bedroom home in Coventry - where the bill for the public would have been a more reasonable £1,000 a month - simply because they wanted to live ‘closer to their friends’.

yes in fact they were in a house already in Coventry and left without paying the last months rent and left damage to £600, It sounds like they are given the benifet and then they pay the rent.. why is not paid directly to to the landlord to avoid them leaving without paying.. and surely if they kept the benifet that is theft!! Perhaps I am wrong but that is how it read i

i've been thru the process of getting a housing association house, the council are a bunch of , it's pretty difficult for most brits to get a council house, took me 1yr of bidding, many people bidding for a small number of houses, people know how the system works and jump the queue
