    Passport running out

Hi, my wife's passport runs out the end of october, just wondering if it's ok to renew this Philippine passport any time, after it runs out.We don't want to travel all the way to London in October, as we have no plans to go back to the philippines for the next year or 2. This is the only passport she has,and inside she has her ILR.

    Question if I may ....

When she does receive her new passport, does this then have to be sent to the Home Office (or UKBA, or ,,,,) to get the ILR transfered across ?

.. or will that neccesitate the old passport (with the ILR in it) being carried alongside the new passport (when travelling outside the UK) ?

I can tell you how it happened for my wife.
She would carry her old passport around with her whenever she travelled.
UKBA told her she could transfer the vignette to her new passport but it would cost around £80-£90 or just keep her old passport with valid visa.

I think it costs £100 these days for transfer. Seems a no-brainer to me but obviously people do it.

Her Phils passport may expire but the UK Visa is still valid.

agree with terpe. They attached the old passport to the new passport & is always on hand everywhere she travels.

    Terpe ...... thanks.

I can't see why they haven't retained or extended the FLR system, whereby you receive a new ILR "ID" card...... but I guess that is too obvious.

    Hi,

I had my passport renewed/amended to use my husband's last name. We went to london last last week of July and yesterday my husband went to Phil. Embassy to pick up my passport... sounds like its not 12 weeks depends on how quick the embassy will have all the passport processed in Manila.

Anyway, you better have the passport renewed to avoid problems. As for the ILR, Visa it will cost 250GBP to have it transferred to new passport. To save money, bring the old passport whenever you travel in out UK.
    Life as we make it

*Too right, you don't! And I empathise ... it's EXTREMELY expensive to travel from Scotland to London ... and - as you've seen from the replies already received (two of which I've quoted again + highlighted where relevant, below) - completely unnecessary at this juncture.

Yes. MY wife becomes eligible to apply for Citizenship - and after that, a British Passport - next March. As for renewing her Phils' Passport ... ... well ... ... we'll see ...

Quite! Call me a cynical , Marc ... but I don't see the sense in shelling out much-needed cash twice when I can "kill two birds with the one stone", [horrible expression, that!]. NOT Bluebirds, I hasten to add.
