Oink Oink!! Cost of a Pig

I will be in the phils next week and my mahal said her mom wants to cook a pig at the weekend when all her family will be there to greet us. I guess i should buy the unfortunate animal, can anyone give me an idea of cost and any tips in relation to the transaction. We will be in Vigan.

Not sure on Vigan, but in Bohol the cost for a 40kgish lechon baboy is P3500-4000 already roasted including the blood/guts (dinoguan?) My wife's family sells smaller pigs (15-20kg) suitable for fattening up for about P2000.

I'd go for the pre-done as it's pretty labour intensive to slaughter, gut, build the fire, prepare and spit roast for 3+ hours .....

Dont forget to rub coke/sprite on the outside for extra crackly skin.

I think I paid around P3K/P4K for this one. Plus the cost of San Mig during cooking.
It certainly takes plenty of time and care.
Ours collapsed half way through roasting and the pole needed some 'fireside' repairs before being threaded back into the pig.

    Great fun and great BBQ

That was real 'biggy' piggy Steve. How long did it take to cook?

Must say your cooking area was much neater than mine

It was dispatched at about 7am and cleaned. I think on the spit by 8am and was ready to eat at about 1.30pm. It was at the point of just falling off the bone..... yummmmm..

As for my yard, it isnt really 'that' tidy, I have 2 chicken huts about 25 chickens all scratching around and bird crap everywhere, you know the score lol. I need some more concrete I think

    @ Mick, One guess lol
