    C4 Educating Essex

I didn't see it but did anyone watch this fly on the wall programme about an Essex Comprehensive School.

Judging by the press reports it's probably good I didn't watch it as I'd no doubt have put the baseball bat through the screen

I watched it with my 19 year old son and we both found it so funny. He said his teachers were so po faced compared to Passmores. I did find hard to take the teachers swearing and the snowball fights , and they seem very immature but who can blame them bringing humour into a taxing job.

    Watch it and enjoy

Snowball fights - maybe I shouldn't be thinking it's such a bad school after all. Round here 2mm of snow prompts many of the idle Heads to close the schools

I didn't watch it....except for a couple of mins by accident, as I'm fed up of stupidity, crudity and ignorance being 'celebrated' by the media.

Hmm....suddenly remembered my mother banning me from watching the Rolling Stones on telly now, as she said they were rude and disgusting.

    I'm getting old.

I think the press coverage is very negative, and if you read the comments on the daily mail website it was a lot better then they suggest. I watched it on the Channel 4 website this morning.
Respectively, I thought that it portrayed the school in a good light, considering the restrictions imposed on them.
I was impressed with how the deputy head related and understood the students, and knew how to discipline them and didn't react to their baiting and seemed to maintain control. I personnally could not have done his job, and would probably have thrown one of those kids through the wall, hence why i'm not a teacher.

Whilst I strongly feel that the discipline is lacking in schools, I think these teachers pretty much push it the limits that they can legally go. I'm sure a lot of the male teachers would probably want to go a lot harder and really toughen up in th schools, but they aren't allowed and the parents would complain etc etc.

The 'Academy' schools in the UK are doing just that, and the parents are crying.. But they are getting the results.

That being said; my children will never see the inside of a UK state school. I came through the state education system, and have worked hard to make sure my children don't.
