From memory it takes about 5 weeks - my wife did her Nationality Checking via the local council (be aware they can charge wildly different rates - she paid about £80 for The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead but a friend in a cheapo London Borough £45) They ship the papers off to a bunch of Scouser Civil Servants in the UKBA
