we were not married yet when our child was born here in the PHIL...my fiancee and i are planning to get married this december ... my fiancee is a naturalized british citizen and i am a filipino...after getting married we are going to legitimize the baby.. is it better to do the consular birth registration BEFORE OR AFTER we are married ? It should not make a difference but if your not in a hurry I would wait till after your married to register your child.

If parents are not married, mother’s written consent to the registration of the child
It makes absolutely no difference, but your unmarried name will be the one on the certificate. Let me know if you need any more advice on this, I went through this process at the British Embassy a couple of months back.

British citizenship may descend to one generation born abroad. So if you were born outside the United Kingdom or qualifying territory and one of your parents was a British citizen otherwise than by descent, you are a British citizen by descent.
It is your choice if you register the birth at the embassy.

There is no requirement for a consular birth registration to be done for any birth that has occurred overseas. The original birth certificate issued by the authorities in the country in which the birth took place, along with a notarised translation if necessary, is sufficient for all purposes in the UK (including passport applications). The advantages of a Consular birth registration are:
- A British style birth certificate is available as evidence of British nationality
- A record of the birth will afterwards be held in the General Registry Office in the United Kingdom
