Filipino Bible

Hi Everybody,

I love reading my Bible and have been missing reading it in Filipino.
I was wondering if any of you know a shop or anyone that sells Filipino Bibles (King James Version/Tagalog diglots preferably).

I've tried the internet but the prices I'm getting is at least £70 which is a bit too expensive for my budget

Hello Marco, welcome here to the forum.
The King James Version was specifically developed for the English Language and English nuances.
I'm told by my bro-in-law (priest) that there is quite a loss of important meaning in the translation.
Maybe more cost effective to stick to some standard version. (Not that I would know)

There is a very interesting read to be had in a book called "The Book of Books: The Radical Impact of the King James Bible 1611-2011 " written by Melvyn Bragg.
Should be easy to find.
I've found that book to be highly informative. Melvyn Bragg is not a religious person by the way.

I'm not a religious person, but I do know a few people who are and they claim that the King James Bible or Authorised Version is the only true English Language version in print as it was translated from the original Greek text and not the Roman text as were most versions in publication. Subsequent versions have been mistranslated or watered down. Some hardcore Protestants (Presbyterians, Baptists, Lutherans..etc) can get very upset if you dare to question them on the subject.

I saw the Melvyn Bragg TV documentary on this subject advertised about 6 months ago and meant to watch it, but forgot about it, I may try and find it on you tube sometime.

I know the issue of the AV1611 is a very touchy subject for some and ignites the dislike and even hatred between Protestants and Catholics in some communities

It was interesting to see that only now has the 300+ year old ban on the Heir to the throne marrying a Catholic been lifted. If we ever have another Catholic Monarch, will they still be able to use the title "Fidei Defensor" (Defender of the faith)?

Good question, Marco ... and I wish I knew the answer. Although a regular churchgoer, I have to confess [to my shame!] that I've never actually read the Bible; consequently, others' responses, thus far, are much more knowledgeable than I could attempt to offer.

there, Ian. Can't think why not, mind you ... after all, BOTH denominations - irrespective of whether they're Catholic OR Protestant - share the Christian faith.

I was put off religion as a youngster by the in fighting and struggle for power between the various factions within the Christian religion. There was never very much loving thy neighbour and turning the other cheek...etc. To me it seemed that they had completely missed the message that Jesus was preaching, and all they were concerned about was promoting their own interests and beliefs and condemning others who didn't agree 100% with them.
