So sorry to hear this sad news. No matter what we think such things can and do happen.
The spouse (that's you) needs to sign a declaration on the FLR form itself.
Sounds like that's not going to happen.
If you wish you can also send a formal letter to UKBA stating the situation.
UKBA may or may not do anything.
I believe though that as you are both still married, they will 'keep you in the loop'.
