Owen reaffirms his dominance as Uniteds sicknote

Manchester United's Michael Owen is set to be out until at least Christmas with the thigh injury he sustained in the 2-0 win against Otelul Galati.

The England forward, 31, lasted 10 minutes before suffering the problem in the build-up to United's opening goal.

It's a shame for him that he has persistent injury problems, in his day he was a truly great player (despite playing for Liverpool) and he scored some of England's best ever goals against Argentina and Brazil. When he's fit, which is very rare, he is still a great player and hasn't lost his natural instinct for goal. His goals per game ratio at every club he's played for is one of the best around.
I was surprised United offered him a new contract in the summer, but I can't see him being there next year. Maybe it's time for him to accept his career is over due to his injuries and set up a poker school or become a horse racing tipster

Yes. I noticed his glass football presentation for Liverpool's footballer of the year (2002 / 03 season I think) that sits in the Liverpool FC museum. Such a great player in his earlier days.

Wasn't he European Footballer of the Year at one point too?
