hi jocelyn, welcome to the forum, you found the right place for help,
but those who can advise and help, will need more information ,
ie are you married? does your childs father agree ?are here in uk on a visa? which visa? tell us all something about yourself and your situation , so everyone can give you correct answers to help you
If you're already here in England your chances should be pretty good, but depends on the status of the biological father. He may have to give permission.
I brought my two stepchildren here, but they had 'father unknown' on their birth certificates, and he actually died 2 years after they arrived in the UK.
Graham48..How hard it is?What are the documents they ask??and how long it takes? How old is your step children? If you can gave me some info that would be so much help for me.My daugther is a 6 yrs old. Thanks
Jocelyn,
How old is your daughter?
How long has it been since you last visited your daughter?
Who takes care of her now?
One of the issues you MAY need to resolve is that of ‘sole responsibility’.
The 'sole responsibility' meaning really isn't so precise. Every family’s situation is unique.
I personally, have not seen any written information from the UKBA on specifically how to prove sole responsibility status.
But you will need to think about how to satisfy the UKBA that the sponsoring parent has, usually for a substantial period of time, been the main person exercising
parental responsibility for the child. This means that the sponsoring parent has had and still has the ultimate responsibility for the major decisions relating to the child’s upbringing and provides
the child with the majority of the financial and emotional support it requires. The sponsoring parent must show that he or she has had, and continues to have, care and control of the child.
There have been many cases where the parents are separated and the sponsoring parent has left their child in the care of other relatives and gone to the UK without the child.
UKBA will normally expect that where the child is being looked after by relatives, they should be the relatives of the sponsor. In such a case the, sponsoring parent must
still show that she or he has retained the ultimate responsibility for the child’s upbringing and provides the majority of the emotional and financial support needed.
I hope I have not made any incorrect assumptions about your own circumstances.
We do have a number of members who have actually been in your position hopefully they will be able to share their experience with you.
There's plenty of reading available that may help you to better understand what UKBA needs to be done.
Please take a look here:-

(Especially SET7.8 "What is sole responsibility")
And the Immigration rules here:-

Hope this helps
Terpe is the person with the most up-to-date info, so best take his very good advice.
My stepkids were 7 years (girl) and 9 years (boy), and they had been living in the Phils with grandparents for a few years before coming here.
They have settled very well here, and are both at University now.
Good luck with your application.
