First thing I used to do when chatting to girls on the dating sites was input their YM ID or (preferably) email into facebook, friendster, myspace etc.
Amazing how much you learn, especially as most don't have enough sense to make their facebook only viewable by friends (as mine is).
Also, simply google their email.
You may also find that they are linked already to scammer discussion forums.
