Best avoided the outfit is owned and run by this bloke

Dr Ismail Ahmed - CEO And Founder

Ismail has more than 20 years' experience in international remittances as an academic researcher, compliance adviser for the United Nations and consultant for leading money transfer companies in the Horn of Africa corridor. Sorry, I don't understand. Why is it best avoided? What has this bloke done wrong?

I didn't say he had done anything wrong but with my risk assessment parameters money and Somalis ring alarm bells.

So you're saying that we should not trust this company because of where the founder comes from? Hmmm, isn't that being racist?

And what is that supposed to insinuate ?

You're the person who is concerned about the service from this outfit so I'd expect you to be wondering if Somalia is a world leader in financial services ? Most of the news stories I read seem to concern piracy, civil war, crime and so called "asylum seekers". Still there can't be many other operations specialising in money transfer to the Philippines who have an ex UN "compliance adviser" at the helm.

If I was thinking of transferring some funds I would delve a bit further into the FSA entry which states "Payment services are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme"

I have been using Orbit Remit for transfers to Marist, mainly because they have offered the most competitive exchange rate. The fees are modest and the service excellent. I can also print off the list of transactions which I used to support the visa application.

My problem now that my wife and step son are here, is transferring money FROM the Philippines back to the UK. Has anyone used Paypal or one of the others to do that? Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

Yes, I was concerned about the service from this company, but definately not for that reason. I was just asking if anybody else has had problems with the company. I know you meant well and was trying to be helpful but I would NEVER EVER judge weather or not I can trust somebody or a company by where the founder comes from. It's a British company, not a Somalian company and in my eyes, if I avoid them because the founder is Somalian then I would be discriminating against him because of his nationality. In my eyes this is racism which I'm not a big fan of.

Anyway, back on topic, I left a message to the company and got a very fast response. It turns out that the reason my money hasn't been sent is because I haven't actually sent it to them yet so it's all my own fault. I got confused by the website and thought that I was waiting for a reference number. The lady told me that I get the number AFTER I have sent them the money.

Anyway, I haven't heard any bad things about the company, and they seem to be ok, so I'm now going to transfer my money to them. I will keep you updated.

Ok, I was pleased with the service from World Remit. It took 2 working days for the money to transfer (but not including the weekend). The charge was £6.99 for £1000 which is reasonable I think. And also the exchange rate is reasonable. Please note the maximum you can send in one tranfer is £1000. My only slight niggle is that I didn't think the payment procedure was very clear. Other than that, I would recomend them and will definately use again.

My husband uses paypal if not too urgent. i have EON/Union bank that is linked to paypal, so whenever he sends i would just transfer it to my EON and would get the money in 4days. i think they charge £5 for any amount he sends.
