Good luck you sound a sensible fella with a "don't run before you've learned to walk" attitude
Have a laugh reading this - another John who back in July was "hoping to find someone with a view to marrying around December time"

I found it sufficient to learn how to buy a packet of fags and a (case or two of) beer. Don't break a sweat over it.

They also have a good list of both Tagalog and Cebuano phrases in the Lonely Planet Philippines guide, which would be a useful book to take with you on a first trip.![]()
You sound like a thoroughly noble and decent fellow.
We seem to have a lot in common.![]()
Thanks my friendwell I am a level headed chap, I like to think things through, do my research and know whats inolved in all this long distance stuff.
i am taking things slowly and see how we feel after say 5-6 months then decide about a holiday there, meet her parents do some site seeing and scuba diving, and if it doesnt work out, well it was a good experience and I would have had a nice holiday and met a very sweet woman .. nothing ventured nothing gained.

Hi Andrew,,, What do you think ,, Anna's general visa granted in 7 days for six month stay,, who is the lucky one,, Best of Luck with your application.
Hello my fellow friends here.
Well my dear friend Angeline and I have been friends now for 7 weeks, and our affection and delight in ecah other seems to grow. Skype dates are about 2 hours on a saturday and we have so much to share.
I am looking at the possability of 10 holiday in june, and checking out hotel prices and flihgt fares and car hire, it seems a very low cost place to stay just cost a lot to get there!
Thanks for all your support John
Hope you enjoy your trip to MindanaoIts a nice place to kick around,CDO is ok,everyone will appreciate you learning the language, even just enough to make them think
Scrap the tagalog, thats my advice, concentrate on visayan,a little at a time and build up your vocab, before you know it the words turn into sentences,my grammar was shot to crap when I first started but its like a jig-saw,pieece by piece till the picture starts to form,I know people in Mindanao who dont speak more than a few words of tagalog and they were born there, get a decent visayan phrase-book and start learning, theres guys been married to pinays for years who speak no more than a dozen or so words,so your a novelty
Enjoy your trip

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.
Good luck John for your future ... if only I were younger and had more patience I may try the same journey![]()

I met my wife online in early March. Met her face to face in mid April for just over a week and then married her in June. She got her Spouse visa in September and arrived in Britain on 1st October.
Some fast movers on here![]()
Some of us can't afford to hang about ....running out of life.![]()
Yep, fall in love....meet the lady in person and then hopefully stay in love.
Take it from there.
They've got to make the old heart race a bit to get you running for that plane and endure the tedious 20 hour journey.
Bear in mind though, I HAVE been scanning the dating sites for about 4 years now, and reckon to have a reasonable understanding of Filipino culture and thought processes, after being backwards and forwards to the place for over 20 years including spells of residence of up to 3 years and having had 12 years of marriage to a Filpina.
Doesn't guarantee success or compatibility, but does mean that the rose-coloured specs went years ago.
