That's what I said, in Spain they still joke and pull each others leg. Like we all did when we were youngsters in UK (and like probably the rest of the world still do) before in the UK they started legislating about practically everything; nursery rhymes, health and safely etc etc
I would quite like to hear the sentiments of the Ferdinand brothers right now.......
I agree that PC has taken some things too far, and some of the things we used to joke about are no longer acceptable, but monkey chanting is disgraceful, I really can't see anything funny in that.
Agreed.
It's all about 'intent'.
I don't either but I don't think everything I don't approve of should be banned. When I get people making Irish jokes, if they are funny I laugh at them if I don't I either laugh them off or ignore them. I never asked for, nor would I every want, a law to stop people puling my leg. We (that is you in UK) have enough laws already and most of them don't get enforced very well.
I don know. I was wondering if Rio had tweeted a bit on this topic and of course Les has a lot to say on these matters. I have a lot of respect for the two of them. And I concur with their point of view on such matters. But yes, Rio is probably treading a "diplomatic tightrope" just now.....
......(unless JT has been doing their ex's too)
I did think that there was more to this than we knew at the time....
It seems Saurez only used the word 'negro' .... when did that become racist?
Keith - Administrator
normally in circumstances such as "Negro need not apply" or "Negro go home"
Anyway the hugely talented Suarez knew exactly the implied meaning and seems to have warranted the ban
Now for Gerrard, time to review his uppercut
You're not allowed to say 'coloured' now either.
Presumably different coloured people don't exist anymore.
....Let's all just pretend shall we ?
Probably the best way of looking at this case.....Jason Roberts of Blackburn Rovers...
" Suarez and Liverpool claimed "negro" was a commonly used term in the striker's homeland of Uruguay and that it was often used affectionately there.
But Roberts, who received an MBE in 2010 for his services to sport in Grenada, added: "To use those words in that tone and context is certainly not acceptable in our leagues.
"It's not good enough to say, 'It's OK where I come from, so we do it here'. That's not the way we judge our society or the Premier League. "

Maybe as there are probably considerably less 'white' people in the world we should not refer to the colour of one's skin unless they are white and maybe then, the 'so called 'white people' could complain of discrimination if the actual shade of white/pink was not used.
Or maybe we could all grow up !
I will not be putting money on it but I would not be surprised to see the two who were convicted in the Stephen Lawrence trial, get acquitted on appeal.
I am not suggesting they are innocent but from my professional experience that is what I think may happen.
Look at all the others who have been acquitted, does anyone think they were all innocent. No, they had 'smart' lawyers who knew how to bend the system.
