if your refused it shouldn't really effect future visa applications as every visa application is judged on its on merits, unless your refused a visa and re-apply for the same time of visa (or maybe even a different type of visa) after a short period of time without providing evidence to challenge the reasons for past refusal. if not you might be refused again for the same reasons.
the only way really to get a ban would be for fraud or 'frustrating immigration rules' basically means abusing rules.
