I have heard they were raising this but also heard they had not set an income figure yet, anything from 18-25k. They will go high if they are wanting to curb the people coming in.

what ever figure they set there will be court cases, I'm sure of that , article 8 unless cameron can scrap parts of it

i'm sure people will find ways around this to, maybe just get a part time job to boost your income, what if a friend or family member or someone who owns a business to 'employ' you on a nice wage until you get the visa , i'm sure people have thought of many other ways around this, but using deception might get you a ban so be warned

And ... for the record, Stevie & Lasttlid can BOTH rest easy that - come what may - their respective marital partners will NOT find themselves adversely affected by ANY of the proposed changes.

Thanks for the positive words Arthur but i cant keep from worrying that when Florsel applies for her ILR in october that she could be deported over this new rule

Honestly, Stevie ... I really DON'T believe that even a Cameron Government could be heartless enough to rescind the right of abode for the partner of a British Citizen in ANY circumstances (let alone on the basis of something so flimsy as a couple's fluctuating financial situation!) short of *marital breakdown. And *that's never going to happen because yours and Florsel's is a relationship built to last.

    Steve,
I kind of thought along the same lines as you, partly because I am unfamiliar with ILR and partly because we just don't know where changes in the regulations are going to take us.
Thank god for article 8 eh?

I read a article this morning from Immigration news that a Bangaldashi had been allowed to stay under Article 8 simply because he played Cricket on Sundays and was a post graduate student.
It was not abt finance it was effectively petitioned on his right to s private life...........so if we all play cricket on a Sundays can we say the GF is wicketkeeper to allow her to stay here too.

Cameron and Clegg make the rules up as they go along

Like I said just a few days ago, there's some hilarious stuff associated with immigration to the UK....

Signed - not just because it might make a real mess of my personal plans for my future, but this is a disgraceful attack on someone's basic human right.
Yes we all know who the people are who are abusing this, so why not make it harder for that sort of scam.

They also really need to put this in perspective, so the government may be wanting to cut down migration, but marital visas - the thing which enables a FAMILY to be together - are not the major source of immigration, that is immigration from within the EU, which we can't stop, and really, we shouldn't stop as it works both ways.

The thing is, yes they want to as one part of a new ruling, raise the income threshold so people aren't coming here and on to benefits. The government "outsourced" this to a thinktank - who came up with these suggestions.

That is what it is though - suggestions. They could say no way and reject them all - or come up with one of their own - £30,000 plus or £10,000 or anything.

I really shouldn't equate "logic" with politicians, but surely setting an arbitary figure such as this would leave the government way open to court cases, and even moreso, as this would hit hard "you know who community", the perpetual accusation of "that's raaaaaaaaaaaaaacist".

Of course it needs opposing, and being aware of it, but it's already January, there's nothing on the internet about definite figures - or even that there will be a figure.

It also has to be remembered, that the average wage in one part of the uk can be drastically different to another part.

It will be interesting to see if this actually happens to be frank. If it does, then the court cases will soon erupt. Governments don't like to make laws they know could be challenged, and give them their due, will all joking apart always err on the side of caution.

If this does come in, it will be a real "pass the popcorn, sit back and watch the fallout" situation.

err no like petitions written on paper they have to have an end date when they can be closed off and submitted. It was a total waste of time as it was a petition against a "proposal" and only 133 people saw fit to "sign" it.

You could always tweak the wording and start a new one - I'll second it

Surely if you show that you have a reasonable amount of cash in the bank this would offset someone who is just below what they class as enough income to support your spouse.

Rules are rules Rory once they have set them its end of story. They wont give any leeway.

As for ILR AND FLR I think they were talking about extending it to 5 years. I might be wrong though. I would just like to say thanks to everyone who has signed the petition.

I am earning good money at the moment but in 5 years time i do not know where and what i might be doing. 10 years from now i will be 55 and plan to not be in this country but nobody knows what will happen or what rules are in force anywhere. I will just have to bite the bullet like the rest of us and get on with it,
