When we first got married 25 years ago we were both broke.. She got her visa from the Embassy the week after we married.. Neither of us asked the government in the UK for anything..
We worked for a living and established our lives as a couple..
That was the norm in traditional British family life.
These days a newly married couple needs 26k a year before they start married life!!!

with the sheer numbers of people entering the uk and planning to live here of course the government have to bring in tighter controls
