I have spent much time in the internet looking for THAT SOMEONE before I met DAVE... I once happened to meet an Israeli photographer, to whom, I have had this GRUESOME experience..
Have you ever heard the maxim “The BEST things in life are FREE”? I suppose you do but you don’t believe in it especially nowadays when even “love” can be bought. Well, I have been believing that there are still things in life which could be given freely, like smile, (except for toothpaste models, maybe), love (except for love dealers) and appreciation until I talked who made me doubt my conviction. The 20-minute chat inspired me to write a poem:

There was once a time in my boredom
I happened to talk to a man named “Someone”
Someone because his name I don’t want to reveal
Someone because he made me realize something real.
He could speak French, Spanish and Italian
His perfect hideaway is a place in Japan
His third eye is the camera’s lens
With every talk, my appreciation heightens
He expressed his zeal to learn Filipino words
I eagerly taught him without hesitation of course
He learned so fast, God! He’s amazing!
I couldn’t stop myself from appreciating
I’ve uttered the word “awesome” twice
I’ve told him “you’re great!” almost thrice
He kept thanking me for my so-called “compliments”
Didn’t know he already gave his unfair indictment
Why do you like to say “great!” always?, he asked me
I answered, “Coz teachers should appreciate students with glee”
Why do you love to express appreciation?, he added
“Coz I appreciate simple things in life”, I answered
The third time I uttered the word ‘awesome’
He asked a question which made me dumb
“What do you want from me?”, he kept asking
I have to admit that the question was almost insulting
Why oh why? I felt numb and helpless
I was dumb-founded by this frankness
I wanted to shout out loud and scream
Coz I have the idea what his question means
I wanted to cry, feeling like a slut
Seems like I had all my defense system shut
Then with confidence he said, “you tend to appreciate me”
“…because you hoped I will give you money”
Dang! There I went totally offended
I have never thought it would get that complicated
I have been appreciating all those times
But I haven’t expected anything, even a dime.
If one ‘awesome’ is worth a dollar
Then I would have become the richest beggar
If saying “you’re great!” costs a pound
Then I would have flown to heaven from the ground!
If I intend to appreciate to get something in return
I would have had my curly hair reborn
If I tend to compliment to build my dream home
God, I would have had built my golden tomb
Gaining back all my lost composure
I told him one thing for sure
I had to give him a great assurance
That he’s not paying in exchange of my every utterance
Cooling down and mending my hurt pride
I need to understand him with an open mind
He found me in a place full of beggars
So he shall have to expect that I am also a liar
Made me doubt if best things are still free
When everything in the world seem to have service fee
My appreciation has once put me to shame
Should I pinpoint someone to blame?
Well, I’m proud me appreciation if free of charge
So don’t even dare to think of surcharge
I do appreciate without expecting some exchange
I don’t criticize if the purpose is revenge…
