    Passport Question

    Hi Guys
I am wondering what to do with Rina's passport - once she gets the FLR - she would like her Filipino passport updated with her new name, what is the process for achieving this? Although she will have to maintain a Filipino passport until she can apply for UK (2 - 3 years away I believe) she wants a new passport with her new name.

I guess with the Visa in the old passport would she have to take this with her?

Just wondering what to do so please advise.

    Thanks

    Tone

... that's always seemed to me to be the LOGICAL solution.

There AGAIN, Tone ... ... I suppose a lot depends on the length of validity still left on Rina's passport.

Myrna's first - and ONLY one to date - was issued in September 2008. Which means it's valid until September next year. And, consequently, the UKBA deemed it perfectly acceptable last February when she applied for ILR.

But, like Rina, she's keen to have ALL her documents registered in her marital surname - especially her Naturalisation Certificate - as soon as she's granted *British Citizenship. We're hoping *this can be accomplished WITHOUT the PRIOR need to update the existing [maiden] name on her Philippine Passport.

Tone, firstly, on a solely practical aspect, I would agree with others views on this but..............................................
if Rina really really wants to change and she will not need her passport for around 12 weeks and you don't mind a visit to the Phils embassy in London, then why not.

BTW, the latest info is that Phils Embassy do not do name changes, so she will need to do renewal (that's why it takes so long).

    As always a personal choice.

my wife Jennie changed her passport just before Christmas she received it back last week it cost £43 they have to send it to the Philippines. we also registered our marriage at the same time at the embassy.
if you do decide to renew it when you go to the embassy get there when it opens as no queue but after 11am lots of Filipinos there.
then once you get the new passport you will have to get the biometric residence card changed with the new surname and ukba charge you £39 to do that .

    Evening All.

Thanks for the advice, we will have a think, but you've certainly given me some food for thought.

Her passport does have a couple of years left I think, it's currently in the UKBA for the FLR so I'll check it when it comes back.

    Thanks

The Phils Embassy no longer perform these changes. If name changes are really wanted then it's passport renewal. Passports sent to Manila for this.
