    The Beatles.

No other band in the WORLD has ever come within a million miles of them.

Rolling Stones were my other favourite.

Won't bore everyone with a big list of the others.

Have to disagree about the beatles imo the stones were far better musicians.

Admitted the beatles had a big following but they were mostly screaming schoolgirls were as the stones were more of a mans band imo

I'll go for Roxy Music - I see the old lounge lizard Bryan Ferry 66 got married to a toy girl 29 the other week - good for him

    @ stevie c...

I liked them both, but in different ways.

I bought every record the Stones ever made and also went to their concert in Hyde Park.

    Nuff said.

The Sex Pistols - Not the best musically, but they completely changed the face of British youth culture in the same way the Beatles did a generation before them.

    The Clash

    The Jam

    New Model Army

    Faithless

Ok, leaving the 60s (where I also really liked the Kinks, Animals and lots of others):

    Pink Floyd

    Led Zep

    Deep Purple

    Black Sabbath

    Bowie

    Roxy Music

    Hmm.....said I wasn't going to make a list.

I DID used to be a Sales Manager for a subsidiary of EMI in the 70s, and got my records and pre-releases free.

I was never a big Oasis fan myself. I thought the best British bands of the 90s were the Manic Street Preachers and Pulp.

You and I have very similar taste.

Agreed that Oasis bloke (Gallagher ?) was just a foul-mouthed John Lennon wannabe.

After the Beatles, its gotta be Led Zeppelin, first saw them in a small club in Southall circa '68 and Jimmy used the violin bow and that was before they hit the big time here.Cost to get in 8 shillings and 6 pence and it was the best gig I ever went to, sheer magic and I went to see plenty of bands in those good old days. Pink Floyd also deserve a mention together with Rod Stewart and the Faces.

... I'm one of the few old codgers on here, whose late teens and early twenties were dominated by Merseyside Bands such as the Beatles, Searchers, Gerry & the Pacemakers - to name but three. Okay, I didn't allude to the Rolling Stones ... but they were formed in London. And then - heading back North - there was Freddie & the Dreamers from Manchester who, in my opinion, are worthy of mention: I fondly recall my late first wife frequently engaging in a take~off of Freddie's dancing antics in her pre~arthritic days.

But beyond the 1960s pop era ... my musical recollections become hazy ... ... either I'd outgrown this phase, the "talent" had seemed to steadily decline (in MY opinion) or I was simply no longer interested.

So, it would be pointless of me to comment further.
