1. The Smiths
2. The Beatles probably?
3. The Bodines...fairly unknown 80's indie band
Too many other bands to make a choice?![]()
Cant believe no-ones mentioned The Spice Girls or Wham......... I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really really really wanna zig-a-zig-ah......![]()
Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.
I am here Sim,sunny Surrey innit![]()

Ah a short trip then. Bangin'
Talking about Wham! I saw Andrew Ridgeley in St. Ives Cornwall a few years ago. Think he became a bit of a surf bum. He lived down there somewhere, plus he was shacked up with her from Bananarama...He did alright for himself, for not being able to play the guitar.
My mate took a pic of him in cornwall,he is totally bald and looks like the Dali Lama's son...He did alright for himself,![]()

For me UB40 are head & shoulders above any British band past or present. Their early music was brilliant.
Def Leppard would be second & Queen would be third.
I reckon you'd be the one in ten on that one Joe.![]()
I like em.
.
I cant believe it. You all forgot Queen!
New Order
The Prodigy
Faithless
Blur
Groove Armada
UB40 moved away from roots reggae around the mid 80's after forming in '79. They started to bring out covers such as Red, Red Wine and IMO went downhill, although it was still good but nowhere as brilliant as before.
I think the only tracks that made the charts from that early period was King, Food For Thought & One in Ten and they weren't even the best.
I won't list them all, but here's a track called Madam Medusa about a bitch called Thatcher. Over twelve minutes of pure quality roots reggae.
Ok this will surprise some of you but I was never really keen on the stones. I like every kind of music except rap but if I had to choose one in my era it would have to be queen.
I was fortunate to see ub40s last ever concert in birmingham. They were good. As for red red wine it was a great song when Jimmy James and the Vagabonds did it. Of coarse Neil Diamond wrote it..
Of the 'later' bands, I really like Stereophonics .![]()
I went to see Queen in Woverhampton in about 1977. I got arrested that night. Long story!(Very minor offence)
At the time I was an avid Queen fan and particularly liked their earlier stuff, but they were a dissapointment live. Freddy couldn't hit the higher notes in Bohemian Rhapsody.
One of the best bands I saw live in that era was The Rod Stewart Band ( At least that was what it was called on the day). Excellent live.
What about the Hollies and Crossby Stills Nash and Young?
And U2 and Snowpatrol and the Verve....
A bit "off-topic", but saw two cracking tribute bands over the weekend.
Firstly, on Friday night The Bootleg Beatles in Croydon.
They were absolutely amazing

... and on Saturday night, in Crystal Palace, To Bob, a London-based Dylan tribute band.
