I must admit, my music tastes these days are very eclectic … into “Americana” in a big way now, such as Stewboss, Richmond Fontaine, Calexico, Uncle Tupelo… etc

Stewboss – Let’s Go To Texas
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_Grp...eature=related

    Richmond Fontaine – Capsized
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YDnmHRPIZI

… although if you’re into (old) progressive rock, check out this version of Procol Harum’s “A Whiter Shade of Pale”, with original member Gary Brooker. Brilliant. Gives me goose-bumps.

I think the only tracks that made the charts from that early period was King, Food For Thought & One in Ten and they weren't even the best.

I won't list them all, but here's a track called Madam Medusa about a bitch called Thatcher . Over twelve minutes of pure quality roots reggae.

Jamie im a massive fan of UB40 i see went to see them in concert at hammersmith odeon i also have every ub40 song that they recorded & many dvd s in concert they were just brilliant

Even if you arent so keen on them, you have to hand it to them for sheer output and popularity in their day. Theres many of their songs i dont like but many that i do. And i can kind of see why someone might say they are overated, but exactly what was it that some think makes them mediocre?

I think a lot of our favourite music also had to do with the memories particular songs evoke.

I have great memories of songs like 'Dangerous' by Roxette and 'Ice Ice Baby' by Vanilla Ice.
Also Bon Jovi and Phil Collins tracks.

All were popular and heard everywhere around the time of my first visits to the Phils.

I rate in the top 10 both Beatles and Stones...for different reasons.

First record I bought was 'All Over Now' by the Stones though.

I agree they are pioneers and I understand that a lot of folk older than me, loved them - but what came before the Beatles, Elvis etc?
Crooners & war music I take it, so they were a breath of fresh air for that era.

Comparing them to other artists over the years, The Beatles music does nothing for me. I can honestly say there's not a track of theirs I like.

I agree. I have always said there is good and bad in all areas of music. Not all Punk Rock was c-rap either.

The beatles were in the right place at the right time in my opinion but I do like some of their songs.
