Terpe on a serious note what do you think will be the outcome for those who are already here on a spouse visa & about to apply for ILR if they are not on the kind of salary mentioned![]()
AN HAPPY WIFE IS A HAPPY LIFE
Firstly Steve, this government is NOT going to instigate any new deportation scheme. So don't anyone panic about those issues.
Damian Green has already stated that he has the objective of extending the period from FLR to ILR from 2 years to 5 years. Now how those rules would be introduced is really anyone's guess. My own personal view is that it will be for new arrivals only. This is also the view of quite a number of legal organisations.
That's a view I have from all the writings I have seen.
Hope it helps.
I just feel a little bit more concerned now about new applications. Especially as the popular general view is so anti-immigration just now, and also anti ECHR (Human Rights Court). There could be a real mess somewhere along the line.
well thats one of my fearyou're already here in the land of plenty
I fear that your stuck here with usterpe..to be stuck here in the land of plenty but with lack of boilin sun

I think you will be ok Moy.
Its gonna be tougher for new applicants to the UK, as Terpe says.

A place for everything, everything in its place.
I watched Damian greens speech dated 2nd Feb on the Parliament channel, last night. (I hasten to add I don't normally watch that channel). I dont recall him mentioning ILR. Mainly to do with immigration through the workers and student route.
Seems like he will be releasing more info on the spousal route over the next few weeks.
You will be ok lasltid. Theres always someone worse off than you.![]()
i cannot see any changes affecting those that will be applying for ILR soon, you've come into the UK on a settlement visa and after 2yrs you could apply for ILR, any changes to those people i'm sure will be seen as unfair by any judges
I agree - I think someone looking to start their "journey" applying for Fiance/Spouse/PBS/Student visa will be subject to the newer controls - I cant see the people already half way through the process having to be subjected to these new proposals and then the gov be subjected to a heap of legal claims!
Tone
i am 2-3 months months away before i could apply for my ILR..I do worry about that situation tone..I cant see the people already half way through the process having to be subjected to these new proposals![]()

AN HAPPY WIFE IS A HAPPY LIFE
I agree with tone
I think it would be wrong for the government to change the immigration rules for anyone that is already in the system. Maybe to new applicants yes...its like changing the rules half way through a football game.
Moreover, any such breach of this Nation's proud heritage would be tantamount to a break with "the Establishment"- something even today's hard-boiled politicians are loath to risk ... lest it collapse on top of them like the proverbial
