Who Do We Fill In As 'sponsor' On My Step Daughter's Visa App?

Hi..not posted here for a while & now just about to submit applications for wife and step daughter online ...

Am wondering who do we fill in as 'Sponsor' on my 5 year old step daughter's settlement visa application?

I am aware the guidance notes say, 'In applications from children, the sponsor is the parent or relative who you will live with' ...

(nb: we are also submitting at the same time settlement visa application for my wife, who is my step daughters mother).

So will we put my name or my wife's name as the sponsor .......??? It's in Part 7 area of the application...

Hope someone can help as trying to finish the online application today ,..and don't want to make a costly mistake !

    thanks

    Hi shalona

The VAF4A form is not well designed I'm afraid. It's another one of those "one-size-fit-all" generic things.

Concerning the application of the children, the forms need to be filled in from the childs perspective, this an application from the children.
Where is mentions 'You' or 'Your' then this is the child

Where it mentions parent then this is your wife

Where in mentions Sponsor, then this is you.

Under UKBA rules stepfather is not usually a parent.
    UKBA say this:-

    "a parent" includes

    (a) the stepfather of a child whose father is dead ....................
In section 8 YOU are the sponsor, your wife is the parent

8.1.1 Tick the box that says "As the child of someone settled, or going to settle, in the UK"

Under 8.2 YOU are the sponsor, so these are YOUR details

Hope this makes sense and helps

If you have any other doubts or uncertainties post you questions here we'll do our best.

thanks so much ..lots of very informative details,,have filled it out accordingly ..

We're now at the end & about to submit and wondering IF one should fill anything in the last bit: ' Is there any other information you wish to be considered as part of your application?'

....I ask this as any 'other information' (like details on relationship/sole responsibilty/finances/etc) have been included in my sponsors cover letter & wifes applicant cover letter ...
    thanks ....nearly there

It looks like you've got everything covered. From what you've said there's nothing more to add to the form, well done for providing a comprehensive sponsors letter of support. The ECO's do read these to gain an overall impression and 'feeling' for the application.

    Good luck
