Of course it’s right that investigation is undertaken to determine whether criminal offences have been committed. I understand two of the three doctors filmed have already been suspended.
Just for the record :-
The 1967 Abortion Act covers England, Wales and Scotland.
Termination of pregnancy is legally justified if two doctors ( one in an emergency ) decide “ in good faith “ that continuing with the pregnancy would
• be a greater risk to the woman’s life than ending the pregnancy
• involve a greater risk of injury to the woman’s physical or mental health than would ending the pregnancy
• be more of a risk to the physical or mental health of the woman’s existing children than would ending the pregnancy
...or there is a risk that the child, if born, would have a serious physical or mental disability.
Abortions are not legally available “ on demand “. The only legal justification for an abortion on the grounds of gender would be if the unborn baby had a genetic, sex-linked disorder that would cause serious disability.
A legal termination must be carried out in an approved hospital or clinic. Almost all legal abortions are carried out because the mother is less than 24 weeks pregnant, and continuation of the pregnancy would involve a greater risk of injury to the physical or mental health of the mother.
