I think this is one and the same thing. I didn't actually have a CNI to start off with, I had a License to Marry from the Isle of Man. Different name, same thing. Then I exchanged it for a CNI at the Manila UK embassy.

I have an idea that a Legal Capacity to Marry is actually an Amercian expression....

When I was starting off last year I was worried about the Isle of Man License to Marry, so I emailed the UKBA in Manila and they confirmed it was okay.

I am not absolutely certain about this but someone else might confirm it one way or another.

In Australia the 2 expressions are interchangeable....

It's the CNI actually, the Philippines only calls it Legal Capacity but really it's the same thing. You need to get it from your local council, I think you need to make an appointment first over the phone through your local council, then they will put it on the notice board for approximately 21 days, but with my husband who is from Huddersfield it only took him over 10 days when he got it. After you got the CNI made from the UK, you need to make an appointment with the British Embassy in Manila to get a Local version made by them because the Philippines will not accept the one that's made from the UK. It will cost about more or less PHP3,000.00 to get a local version. I hope I was able to englighten you otherwise you can go to this link for more information

Yes, the CNI is what you need. As said, you get it from your local registry office. Call them to make an appointemnt and they will tell you about any papers you need to take with you. I remember taking my passport, birth certificate, driving licence, final court stamped divorce papers, utility bill and all my wife's details etc etc and where you are getting married ie: town/city in Phils. Legally, it should be posted (in the counciil offices) for 21 days, not sure how it was only posted for 10 days by Iamghee? Cost of about £34
Once in Phils, make an appointment to go to the British Embassy, take all your papers as described above along with all your fiancee's official NSO papers where they will process you a local CNI to collect a day later. You take this to your local municiple, in your town, where it takes a further 10 days to process. Once processed, you are ready to get hitched. Easy!!!

Tell you fiancee to stop worrying, you now know what you need to do.

Thank you for all your replies. I have been over the process a thousand times in my head and i have already applied for my CNI and i am in the middle of waiting now for the 21 days to pass. The cost was £33.50 so i good guess Steve.
I just wanted to confirm the document was the same, thanks again for all your replies, i will inform my fiancee that she can de-stress a little now. I dare not tell her this is only the start of a stressful year before i can hopefully get the all clear for her spouse visa.

Just a heads up Rory, but I think the CNI is valid for 3 months only.
