Get NI number coz you need that in looking for a job (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ni/intro/number.htm), register to your local GP (http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1095.aspx), also you need your name in some billing statements/joint bank accounts as proof of address..you also need to study and take the Life in the UK test because it's needed for your future visa (ILR)..

...When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible...
Well, you are in a similar position to us now. Just 6 months behind. So far we have registered my wife with a doctors surgery, opened a bank account for her and moved home. Then registered at a second doctors surgery. Each of these has and is giving us proof of address / cohabitation evidence that they will be looking for in the future for ILR. We went for a National Insurance number but my wife will not get one unless she applies and is given a job. But in any case I don't think she will be seeking employment anyway.
I am going to try and get our electricity bill in joint names. We dont have council tax that we have to pay here but I imagine you will be able to use council tax documents as proof of address / cohabitation also. We keep all of these bits of evidence in a box, all in one place for safe keeping etc
I guess 2 years seems a long way off but even now I have one eye on ILR. And also one eye on the potential changes to ILR that are being put forward by the UK government......
This seems to be the relevant form but am sure there will be twists and turns along the way....

Examples of various types of evidence include:
"telephone bills or statements
mortgage statements/agreement
bank statements/letters
council tax bills or statements
water rates bills or statements
electricity and/or gas bills or statements
tenancy agreement(s)
building society savings books/letters
letters or other documents from government departments or agencies, for example HM Revenue and Customs, Dept for
Work and Pensions, DVLA and TV Licensing
letters or other documents from your GP, a hospital or other local health service about medical treatments, appointments,
home visits or other medical matters"
My wife thought that she would need to apply for another visa after 2 years. But as things stand this doesn't appear to be the case. Just a case applying for leave to remain in the UK without a visa, indefinitely.
Happy St Patricks Day BTW
thanks ate rayna and lastlid yep happy saint patricks day so as mothers day in UK
