    Bringing Globe iphone to UK

Will be bringing an old iPhone 3 back to the UK, it's currently on a Globe pay-as-you-go SIM, is it possible to get it on a similar UK network scheme or is it locked?

Only a temporary thing till I can get the wife to the UK (fingers crossed) but she needs my iPhone 4 for the Skype video capability.

    Thanks

I bought my iphone sim free in the UK (Manchester) direct from Apple and it is sold unlocked that way. Handy for me as we use completely different networks in the Isle of Man, so when I moved it was easy to change the sim. Did you buy yours direct from Apple?

Should your iPhone be locked, heres some interesting links....

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/13722...an_iphone.html

    http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI-...le),CASE=17424

These suggest that if your iPhone is locked then it can be unlocked.

iPhone to iPhone you can also use Apple's Facetime and also Viber. Both very handy.

    The Viber App is downloadable.

Globe is tied up with Vodafone here in the UK..I'm using my Globe simcard so my family can text me without costing them more than one peso per text..although I'm only using it for receiving texts..coz calls (both incoming and outgoing) and replying to texts would costs me a lot. Just make sure the Globe simcard can be used for roaming and has credits. Try asking Vodafone if you can use their simcard since it's tied up with Globe.

Try putting a smart or sun sim into the iphone before you take it to uk. If it works with either then its not locked to globe so you should be able to
insert your UK network sim. If it does not work with smart or sun then get it unlocked at a reliable cellphone repair shop

    They'll be no problem.
Any Apple store will arrange to unlock iPhone3, or as tanga mentions any good cellphone repair shop. (Although you used to lose some minor functionality, depending on where the phone was originally sent for retail.)

    Thanks all

I'll take it to a Vodaphone shop if they have a Globe tie-in and see what they suggest.

yes it will be safer to take to vodafone, back street unlockers can mess up functions on your phone

I had a couple of phones unlocked in Market Street (indoor market there) no probs. But wouldn't be so certain when it comes to an iPhone and would be more cautious.
