    Warwick Castle and Cadbury World

It was the warmest day that I have seen this year, some 16 degrees or so plus. Today, Mrs Lastlid and myself visited both Warwick Castle and Cadbury World. I really didn't know what she would make of them. And I had never been to Cadbury World before myself, either.

Warwick Castle turned out to be a winner with her. Good weather and the Castle and grounds and side shows made for some great photos which suits here down to the ground. And in hindsight we should have spent a full day there instead of going over to Cadbury World after lunch.

There were loads of kids there (school trips) and they appeared to love it too.

Cadbury World was, IMHO, a bit of a dissapointment and couldn't recommend it much at all. The only really true positive was that I was able to get my son a 1.5kg chocolate football for his easter egg this year.

I've been to Warwick Castle many times and took my filipina sister-in-law and nephew there last year. They really enjoyed it, especially the jousting. It used to be one of my favourite places but I was a bit disappointed with the way the castle is now being run as there were so many new queues introduced since my last visit. A time allocated ticket was required for most of the areas and we seemed to spend most of our time standing in a line, unlike years ago when you were free to wander around. It's still a wonderfully English place to visit and of immense historical interest but the change in the "organisation" has put me off going again.

I've never been to Cadbury World but don't eat chocolate anyway.

It wasn't too bad today. But I am sure it does get busier as you described. Anything like that here in the UK tends to be so popular and oversubscribed. But there is nothing like it on the Isle of Man. There's a few castles but they are so poor by comparison.

Yes, a great part of our heritage.

I waas looking at taking thewife last year but after looking at it on the web and seeing how it is now run compared to when I visited years ago as a school kid I was put off. Alot of Rosie's comment are along the same lines of my thinking. I felt after loking at the website that it was generally more geared to kids only than adults as wel with all these shows they seem to put on. Plus it all looked very expensive for what it is.
    It's been emontional

I agree Stu, expensive. But I notice everything is expensive now. When I went to London at christmas - same thing. Madam Tussauds, London Eye - similarly expensive.

The other thing I noticed was how many foreign tourists there. Huge parties of french students / school kids etc.

Cadbury World. If you go on Thursday (Purple Thursday) you can buy one and get one free i.e. £14.75 for two adults.

Amazing cadbury world is just up the road for me and I have never been. I have been to warwick castle though. As for leisure time I think the government just want us work pay our taxes and stay in the house.

You probably know yourself then Andy, that its not as good as you think it might be (probably heard from people you know). Worth going on a special offer ticket, maybe.

I am surprised they haven't moved into more modern premises.

Why not go instead to Kenilworth Castle ?
... esp if your a "Tudor" fan.

    http://www.kenilworthweb.co.uk/menu/...ilworth-castle

Went there recently and was quite impressed. Also the nearby town is within walking distance, and has a nice feel to it, with some reasonable pubs and restaurants.

This was pretty much how it was yesterday. But with a couple of sideshows near the main gate. And yesterday the sky was clear blue.

Both my ex wife and ex girlfriend were into their Tudor history.....big time. But for my new mrs I will leave the Tudors a bit longer.....

I did point the tacky Tudor rose out to her, that is everywhere on the Trafford Centre, a few days ago!

I did consider Kenilworth but it isnt open till 1st April and we head back to the IOM on monday.

Thats it. And I would say it is great for kids. They do give you a free Crunchie and Curly Wurly and a bar of Cadburys Dairy Milk each plus some liquid chocolate tasting.

Hehe. Great eh. Did you see the falconry guy with the large eagle and owl? I think that is the same eagle that we saw...

Makes for some great pics eh?

    The peacocks were fantastic.

There were quite a few school parties when we went but it didn't really spoil things at all.

Hehe. Mrs Lastlid is the same. Takes photos of everything She even photographs the receipts sometimes too. LOL.

Unfortunately we are back on the island here and its sooo expensive to get across to the mainland so the black country museum will have to wait. I thought of Stratford Upon Avon (Shakspeare's Birthplace) but wondered if she would enjoy it. How did you find Sratford Upon Avon?

i see. there's always a lot of next time
She will love both coz it's something new to us. Stratford Upon Avon is wicked too. I don't know where to start Just go with the flow where you're instict takes u It's nice to have a walk in the area. The House of Shakespeare in the inside, the river where u can get into the boat for a meal or just at the riverside for fish & chips. Much to see & so very tourist thing. Lots of american tourist the last time we went there. Shops & pubs everywhere. Haven't got a chance to Anne Hathaway's place coz I'm too idle to walk but indeed was a lovely day. Wanted to come back in the future.

I have been to Stratford, with the ex (ssssh) but not the Black Country museum. Again, some great pics, Maria.

We have some trams like that on the Isle of Man.

Our next visit will be to York in June, I think. But as you say, plenty for another time, in the midlands.

Did you go to the Cadbury factory?

You have "Mad Sunday" there on I.O.M. the day during the TT race week that everybody that has a scooter or a Harley can race round the island without fear of a speeding ticket, often with fatal consequences

Philippines has its equivalent around this time every year although foreigners are banned since 2010

    alright I will ssshhhh
geeeez tram like that in the island? cool. That's the electrice tram.
I think Isle of Man is great when it comes to the scenery. I only seen it from the net as hubby said there are unspoilt beaches also Isle of Wight is nice.

Wow! York next. Never been there.

Cadbury Factory? yes. been there outside hahaha myself & hubby are like nuts. We go places w/o plans. When we arrived there, it's close for a school group trips. Hubby kept on saying there's nothing to see in the factory but for me, Pinoy thingy telling my hubby 'shhhhh, it's for my family that they've love to know the inside' So will visit next time in the inside when our little one is a bit older where he can enjoy the chocs.

Not a bad day though as we end up (just like ordinary day ) in the Sarehole Mill & Moseley Bog (a nature reserve in the Moseley area, Birmingham. It was declared a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) by Birmingham City Council on 17 July 1991. I've also heard that it was where the author of the Lord of the Rings use his imagination & wrote the book.

see the trees??? beautiful isn't it? Sarehole Mill is part of the Tolkien Trail, which follows the childhood footsteps of the author and the places that influenced his writing

tower at the background just across the other tower at Moseley Road, Birmimgham. It is believed that this is where the Twin Towers came into his imagination.

Moseley Bog are trees where u can see from the film the Lord of the Rings that moves and talks....

Moseley bog is where as a child, the author would play and spend time. This is where the trees in his childhood mind would talk to him and come alive just like in the film the Lord of the Rings....

at the park on our way to the Moseley Bog...there was a circus going on across of it.

as usual, took a shot of the signage wherever we are for our scrapbooking. ?The surrounding woodland and Shire Country Park ? a haven for birds and all kinds of wildlife

that's all for now. I guess I will stop posting photos as I feel like a spammer Lastlid & this is your thread. Sorry about it. Hope you enjoyed the photos...
