what are docs to be certified?

    Hello

just wondering what are docs that need to be certified my husband is about to send the docs over but i want to be certain.

does he need to have his passport copies signed by a solicitor? bank statements from natwest? and building society account? also, he has shares savings but all these copies can be accessed from online site and we have a snapshot of it from the log in page, his personal page and the amount of shares he has on it, does this one need to be certified as well???

The only documents we had certified were my duplicate bank statements. If they had been original then they wouldn't have required certifying. Evidently online printouts don't qualify as originals and therefore require certifying. I just got my local branch to stamp them and sign them.

We didnt submit a certified copy of my passport because my wife submitted my original birth certificate instead, which is a legally acceptable alternative. Though we did submit a photocopy of my passport to demonstrate that I had been in the Philippines.

Yes. I had the same thing from my bank on the duplicates and the bank said no need to have them certified. However it was an advisor that specified that I get the bank statement duplicates certified. However if they are originals then no worries.

Passport ..(all pages, excluding the blank ones) and Birth certificate ...Bank statement must be original (the ones posted out to you) ...don't forget you need evidence of his visits to the Philippines ..(stamped pages on passport would suffice)

    Good luck

OMG! I've never do that, it's just only a cover page. Now I am worried but we have a photo together with my family and my relative...i hope they will consider that information actually in the checklist they never mention to copy all the pages of the passport but i think its better if i photocopy, i cant do anything now because I submitted my Documents (spouse visa) last march 14 and I only received 2 text from the UKBA. To be honest I am worried

Don't be worried, there's no need to submit all those pages unless they contain stamps etc that you will be using as supporting evidence of specific visits.
The main photo cover page is just fine.

Having the documents certified, is that the same as having them notarized? And who does the certification? Thank you very much.

    Technically it's not the same.

Strictly speaking a certified document is verified as a complete document to being a true and authentic copy of the original. In itself it doesn't mean that the original document was genuine, only that the certified copy of the original is a true copy. Certification may be done by the same categories of professional who would countersign a passport photo etc.

Notarizing is usally done by a Notary Public to verify that the execution of a document, or the identity and signature of someone has been acknowledged and witnessed personally in the notary's presence. It does not mean the contents of the document has been verified or authorised in any way.

    Hope this helps.

Went back to this thread 'cause I'm still a bit confused. So, do you just go to a professional e.g. a police or a teacher and ask him/her to sign the photocopied document? Enlighten me, please. I really have no idea how it works.

Also, Santander Bank sends my husband his bank statements monthly. Will these suffice or does he have to have them certified as well? Thank you very much!

    Passport

There is a really easy way round this. Which is what we did. That is to submit the sponsors birth certificate. If you do that you do not need to get your sponsors passport notarised or anything and photocopies of his passport will do. Also you save on notarising fees.

    Bank Statements

Your original Santander bank statements don't require certifying.

He's a naturalized citizen so what he has is his Philippine birth certificate and the document containing the naturalization details. I don't know if the latter counts that's why I opted for his passport. Please let me know if I'm wrong about this. Thank you!

Ah. Sorry. I am afraid to say that i can't be so sure about that. Guessing I would say yes but I am honestly not sure.

If you have to go with the passport then notarisation of copies can be done for a smallish fee apparently. I opted for my wife to submit my original birth certificate when I realised it would save me money and I wasn't totally certain about who was qualified to notarise.
