    Olympic torch route

Is anyone planning to see the torch if it passes near you?

I will go to Newcastle Quayside on the 15th and to the Angel of the North the next day.

It's going to be passing by the end of our road in May. I'll definitely be out to see it!

Hmmmm, after checking the route, times, torch bearers, etc. my wife informed me that we're actually away on holiday that week!

So, contrary to the post above, I definitely will not be seeing the Olympic Torch when it passes by!

It's coming through our town centre and we're not that far away from the rowing venue. Huge waste of public money and disruption to normal life, I wish I was far away with no access to press or TV for the entire duration of the damned thing

Compared to us, Victor Meldrew is an amateur.

The same thought often crosses my mind

2nd July for us. Monday morning 10:30
I doubt we'll make the effort based on that timing though.

We are lucky that the route for us is on a Saturday, if it was a week day then I might not make the effort to go.

Yes, if it was on a non-working day I'm sure we would go.

    I AGREE !

We are very good at squandering money in this country.

They still haven't even sorted out the likely traffic chaos which will result in London, and any lasting 'benefits' to the country as a whole are very dubious to say the least, when compared to what genuine good could have been done with those many billions poured into the pockets of a few, and in the name of 'international prestige' (don't make me laugh ).

Another infamous example is that totally unnecessary Scottish Parliament building and the HUGE overspend on it.

Various computer systems which turned out to be useless also spring to mind.

There was a very enlightening report on TV about the Melbourne Olympics.
The UK set-up is very similar to that.
Melbourne authorities said they made no money at all.
It's still costing millions to the taxpayers.
The promised legacy benefits have never materialised.
Conclusion. It wasted millions and should never have been accepted.

At the conclusion of the report, the Chinese also agreed and stated that it was a huge loss making venture.

I think the 1984 Los Angeles olympics was the only profit making olympics in recent times. They were hugely commercialised into the private sector, a strategy not done since, oddly enough.
