    Made my blood boil

There was a particular sentence within my Step-sons refusal notice that I was particular offended by on a personal level and feel the comment went way beyond what one would expect ..

*There appears to be no reason why your mother's husband cannot join you in the Philippines to form a family unit*

    My thoughts...

Who do they think they are? excuse me there is a very good reason!! ..we want to live in England, hence why we spent so much money in applications and such like!! ..and excuse me how am I supposed to feed and cloth and put a roof over my family's head if I was to move to the Philippines

Is this ECO aware of the current unemployment in Philippines I wonder? does he have any idea how hard it for a Filipino to find work there let alone a foreigner, is he aware that average weekly earnings there are around 1000php (£6.60) Is it any of his bloody business ? how could an intelligent adult make such a remark is beyond me, needless to say I would love to meet him for a chat ..I will say no more ...

What do you all think ? do you think I have taken it to heart and should expect to read such comments from an ECO ?

That IS a disgraceful and insulting remark to make.

It is not their job to tell you how to run your life.

i dont know if this is so, but i wonder if because of their work position, they are not allowed to apply for visas themselves so that no fiddling can be done by them,,

if this is so, maybe its jealousy , his stament certainly sounds like he is

thanks for your comments ..I was beginning to think maybe it was just me being over sensitive, I can be very sensitive when it involves my family ..I am glad you all feel the same ..

But this is his individual opinion, not one that is laid down by UKBA policy, I would bet on that!!.

I would go right to the top and insist that this individual is reprimanded and re-trained.

i think it is them being INSENSITIVE!!! its okay to be sensitive because you know you love and care so much for you family and you would do anything by any means to provide for them. Such remark from that Eco is way too much. i actually been asking myself, why the Embassy think that a couple cannot live withing their means when any couple or any human being will do anything TO LIVE!!! and be able to have a decent life what more for a COUPLE who loves each other so much!! and refusing a couple son or daughter visa is very CRUEL of them!!!!

Because our GENUINE relationships get associated with those of scammers and parasites who have attempted to cheat the system in the past.

There is also CLEAR discrimination against applicants from what are classed as 3rd world countries.

British sponsors are easy targets with few rights unless they are very rich.

Ask the treasurer of the Conservative party. Oh, too late, he had to resign today.

yes i agree its his personal opinion, and surely his personal opinion should not by any means be stated by him or be a part of the assesment of that decisison,
its unprofessional, and should not happen

    I agree.

This ECO's decision should be reported to the FCO/UKBA....and your local MP.

I have to agree with several comments made above ..that was the ECO's PERSONAL OPINION ...what is even a bigger worry is that I feel the REFUSAL was based on his PERSONAL OPINION ..we submitted TWO large folders full of evidence along with a signed statement from the bio father giving his consent for Jelly to live in England with us.....

Sorry for those of you that are not aware, the great news was that my wife's visa was granted, but needless say she will not be flying here without our son .. yes he may be my step-son but I love him like my own, I have played a large part in raising him since he was 1yr old and loved every minute of it.

its not a personal opinion Bruce, its pretty much a standard reply when it comes to the 'human rights act' and a right to family life. the gov excuse is its not an infringement on your rights as there is the option of you going to live in the phils.

don't take it that personally , even thou its a excuse.

I think 'reasonable' is the operative word here, and it is not REASONABLE for Bruce to be expected to emigrate to a country where he has no residential status, no income, no home and no prospects of employment....the exact reasons a British ECO would give for refusing settlement here.

I think there is a difference ..I am the bread winner, the one supporting my family, not much point in me going somewhere to be unemployed and have very little chance of an income.

Exactly....and of course YOU and the child's MOTHER are the SPONSORS, and it is a CHILD's life we're talking about, not some criminal you're seeking to import into the country.

Now if it had been some poor creature from West Africa coming to live with 'Aunty', and later to be tortured and murdered.

    true
    anyway good luck Bruce

oh, how many people in their letter of support put if their spouse wasn't granted a visa, then they would consider or even move to the phils. I know i did , they could have called my bluff

No I never said that in my application ...but I did state I had tried ..I was out there for a 7month period in 2010 and did look hard for work ..had I found anything I would have stayed for sure ..

The day I had to leave (no money) ..wife crying on one shoulder and my son crying on the other ...then 23hrs on a plane full of strangers...very very difficult to cope with ..

Yep Bruce I agree I also found some parts of their refusal particularly offensive and not the sort of language you would expect from somebody employed in such a position.
In your case what is even stranger is you appear to have clearly fulfilled all the requirements for your wife to join you in the UK and yet they are unable to grant a visa for a 5 year old child. Keep fighting my friend I'm sure your papers will eventually appear on the desk of someone with some common sense.
