stamps up to 60 pence first class what a joke 14 pence rise, to give us 6 days postal service scap saturdays i say
Er... this is Labour policy put forward years ago, it has taken this long to move many legal hurdles into place over the years.
The Royal Mail makes a loss year on year due to the restrictions on trade governments have put on them. Now they are free to charge the true market value instead of your tax money paying for it through the backdoor as happened under Labour.
60p to get a letter from mine to say Cornwall in <24hrs is a bargain. Save on the stamp and take it yourself and work out the difference![]()

Maybe privatisation wouldn't be such a bad thing... IF - like in the case of British Telecom's monopoly being ousted - it encouraged direct competition and, in turn, boosted efficiency.
TNT did a pretty good job with the Dutch Mail - they're being taken over by UPS

Hmm....will this mean more or less illegals and asylum seekers 'sorting' and (sometimes) delivering the Royal Mail ?![]()
Maybe your right Graham. Lets face it what do we own in this country now? And what is left the tories will sell. And just for the record new labour are no different. I havnt voted for either party for the last 4 elections. And before anyone says anything I did vote.![]()
Whatever the economic considerations may be for privatisation, one thing I firmly believe to be true.
A properly trained and loyal workforce who's welfare is taken care of, working for an organisation with a long, proud and respectable heritage will deliver a good honest and reliable service, accepting that there will be the odd bad apple.
The ROYAL Mail, British Telecom, British Railways, The gas, electricity and water boards, London Transport.....all former BRITISH organisations delivering critical core services to the British public.
Anyone noticed any differences before and after privatisation ?
It's not just about the money. It's about PEOPLE, JOBS and SERVICE.
Does anyone EVER ask the consumers what THEY want and how much THEY would pay for it, both in terms of cost, service and jobs and the possibility of stable futures for their children ?![]()
Totally agree Graham. Some people on here will go on about working class people striking. This is my interpretation of it. The government raises prices. The working man has to live.! End of.!. A fair days work for a fair days pay. Thats all any honest worker wants. But one government in paticular bred the !Im alright Jack era and thats whats ruined this country.
only thing british is the word british and that meansnothing anymore great britain more like little britain and getting smaller
onlt item exported now is people born here
I wonder whether we could privatise politicians, outsource them for cheaper ones? I wonder how long it will before there is a standing charge for the luxury of having mail delivered directly to your house, and then we'll end up with Postal Boxes at a central processing office. etc etc
It's far too late, the privatisation may have brought in fast cash, but it'll cost more to the government in the long run.
