Hey everyone. I'm new here, but looks like a great community. I'm Michael, 22 (ang bata ) living in Manchester, but hoping to make the move to Parañaque this year...
Anyway, hope to chat to some of you.

Hello and welcome Michael!
hi michaelh welcome to the forum
Hi Michael...and
There is definitely a mistake here.. I don't "hit" places or "flood with rubbish". It's slightly rude to just assume that. Is this because I put my commercial website in the homepage field?
Regardless, I'm genuinely interested in posting here, I have a long-term Filipina girlfriend, and been travelling there for a few years now and want to make the move. Everything I mentioned was true. Please re-consider....
Thanks

Understood, thanks for changing your mind on the mistake. I didn't consider it advertising at the time. I joined for personal use and this is only the 2nd forum I've joined in my life hehe.

So, what are you going to be doing in Paranaque Michael ?
Paranaque City. I was married there.
Hi Graham, I purchased a condo unit there last year, It's situated pretty close to where I want to study and take my PPL/CPL.
Philippines is an amazing country and climate to be doing that.
@lastlid - It's such a big place. Did you go to the bamboo organ church? That was quite a unique place.
I have relations there, and of course my fiancee was living there when we met, and her sister still does.
It's a big place is Paranaque.
The ex and I were wed at Pasay City Hall...wonder if she ever got it annulled before she re-married.
Yes. We went twice. Once to drop off paperwork and visit the civic (city) hall and then the following day for the marriage. I felt uneasy there, especially in a whistle and flute as I stood out like a saw thumb. Got in, got the job done and got out. All arranged by my wife. We had a driver, so navigation was smooth and easy.
@lastlid - sorry, disregard my question you've already answered. I'm just being moderated for the moment.. how different are weddings in the Philippines, compared with the UK?
Hmm.
Mine was interesting to say the least.
Just as we were about to go upstairs to the Judge's 'chambers', the reception people pointed out a difference in the spelling of the ex's name on two docs, resulting in a race over to the British Embassy....and back !
Judge tried to extort ridiculous fee out of me to perform the ceremony (it is actually a small flat fee, and he is acting as a public servant).
I refused to pay it.
He then started doing the ceremony anyway, with the young girl who up to that point had been manicuring his finger nails waiting patiently next to him.
My best man(...an English expat of many years standing) was taking photos of the Judge helping to put the rings on, and then politely asked if the Judge's typist could do our Marriage Cert there and then (signed by him), so we could collect it later from downstairs.
This he did.
On the way down the stairs my friend and his Asawa (ex-wife's cousin) were having a bit of a giggle.
I just turned to my friend and said...."Hmm good of him to waive the fee", to which my friend replied..." Oh he didn't. I slipped $100 US under his ash tray, didn't you notice ?"
To which I replied "No I didn't, but thanks mate"
Him: "No probs Graham. It wasn't a real one".
I started walking FAST.
From a personal point of view I am not in a good position to say. We had a straight forward simple wedding. No frills. but from what I gather, you can have a much more lavish wedding ceremony for your money than you would back in the UK. I recall Rickyr talking about this just a few days ago.
I recall seeing somebody getting married in Boracay, on the beach and it looked fantastic.
They can be interesting...see my post above.
I have experienced an 18 year olds "debut" and that was very lavish, It was what I would expect to see on reality tv of a teenagers birthday. So, the weddings could be pretty amazing. But after reading your story, Graham, it sounds like such a total hassle too!

Thanks for the thread to satisfy my curiosity, still feel a little young right now haha.
Agreed about the money, I've seen police paid off for traffic related "crime" a few times. But to add, if people know you have the money, there are plenty more people happy to smooth the way...
Wish I'd gone there when I was 22.
I certainly wouldn't be thinking about getting married.
Welcome to the forum
